This pub is now renamed the Alehouse, although otherwise unchanged. I passed a pleasant hour here with Kevin and Robert, between 6 and 7pm – at which time it was pretty busy.

Sherfield Village - Solo Green Bullet4.30GoodGolden in colour, with a bitter, leafy, vegetal hop taste. Served a bit green unfortunately, but still good.

Gwaun Valley - Light4.00GoodFirst appearance for me of this new Welsh micro. A well balanced light ale with a dryish finish. My score 15/20.
Preseli - Baggywrinkle4.50AcceptableAnother new Welsh micro, this one not so good with a rather bitter beer without much real flavour to it. My score 12/20.

Quirky pub in Broad Street, with dark wooden interior and lots of small booths to the rear. West Berkshire beers feature plus local and not so local guests. Re-opened Monday 19th July 2021 after a very long period of Covid pandemic closure. For many years known as Hobgoblin. Re-named in March 2012. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2023.

We have visited this pub 35 times, seen 89 different beers and tried 48 of them.
