27 May 2007 (Ian)
Bank Holiday Sunday, so I had to go to the pub didn't I? Not very full actually, I think a lot of people have gone away for half term.
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | Really very drinkable. I think this may have been toned down to an extent as well as the Skrimshander. Having said that, I could still taste the hops on the walk home. |
Nelson - Rochester Bitter | 3.70 | | Too much diacetyl, like drinking liquid butter. |
23 May 2007 (Steve)
Popped in for a swift one after work
Nelson - Friggin in the Riggin | 4.70 | | Getting near the bottom of the barrel slightly cloudy and a bit sharp |
Thwaites - Lancaster Bomber (please now use the Banks's entry) | 4.40 | Not Tried | Saw the pump clip thought give it a go but it wasn't on yet |
20 May 2007 (Ian)
Came in to see if there was anything interesting and you know what? Oakham Bishop's Farewell was on so I had 2 pints.
Oakham - Bishops Farewell | 4.60 | | Lovely citrusy hops, nearly perfect. And served without a sparkler. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | Not Tried
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried
Nelson - Friggin in the Riggin | 4.70 | Not Tried
Nelson - Loose Cannon | 4.30 | Not Tried
12 May 2007 (Ian)
Popped in for a quickie at lunchtime. Usual mix of shoppers having a break from the shops. Excellent condition though.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Sly Fox | 4.00 | | Not as good as when I had it a few weeks ago. The ginger was less integrated. |
08 May 2007 (Ian)
I came with my next door neighbour, Vanessa, for a chin wag and a gossip. Fine.
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Tom Fool | 4.00 | | Good to have a light mild. Not much flavour though |
Nelson - Shipwrecked | 5.00 | | Had a diacetyl butteryness to it that I didn't care for, but still impressed that they are carrying one if not two Nelson beers. |
06 May 2007 (Ian)
Man Utd had won the Premiership so I had to celebrate didn't I? Took Alex Ferguson's autobiography with me to read.
Woodforde's - Nelson's Revenge | 4.50 | | The tangerine is superb. Intense tangerine hop aroma, creamy in mouth due to sparkler and then this huge hit of tangerine hop on finish. |
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild | 3.60 | | Not as fresh as when I had it before. |
05 May 2007 (Ian)
I had such a good time at Reading BF that I had to pop in here before going to bed.
Oakham - Bishops Farewell | 4.60 | | Funnily enough I had this on my way home bright bottled from the cask at Reading BF. Stunning here too, the citrus is gorgeous. |
Hanlons (formerly O'Hanlon's) - Original Port Stout | 4.80 | | One of my favourite UK stouts. |
02 May 2007 (Ian)
Not sure what I was doing here, must have come in after work.
Clark's (sometimes shown as Westgate Brewery) - Classic Blonde | 3.90 | | Mid gold, lots of lemon citrus here, some grapefruit. Very refreshing. Little bit soapy I suppose. Aroma is pleasing. Decent. |
Salopian - Shropshire Gold | 3.80 | | Creamy golden bitter, some nice citrus. Full in mouth and drinkable. Rich sweetish malt. |
29 Apr 2007 (Ian)
Sunday and I fancied a pint with the book I was reading.
Newmans - Wolvers Ale | 4.10 | | Copper with lasting beige head. Satisfying hoppy beer. Maybe a bit of US hop. Quite creamy and full. Some red fruit malt. Very decent bitter with bitter hop on end. Rather good. |
27 Apr 2007 (Ian)
Early Friday evening and I just popped in to see if any new beers had come on....and they had.
Nelson - Shipwrecked | 5.00 | | Copper with tightish beige head. Fruit and malt, bit of choc. This is a nice deep fruity bitter. Well done Nelson and JD Wetherspoon. I mean it's a good bitter served well and it's a Kent micro. Really high turnover of beers in the festival as well, some only lasting one day. |
Highgate - Highland Whisky Ale | 4.60 | | Copper with thin lasting beige head. Alright, bit more sweet more than anything else. Yeasty aroma. It's not attractive in the mouth, bit sour on finish with the dryness. It's just not very pleasant. Nothing wrong with condition, but an ill conceived brew for me. |
