A lunch time visit. There was general conversation about beer and the bands that play in the pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Abigale - Leas Lift Festival Ale3.80ExcellentA delicious pale ale brewed for the Leas Lift Real Ale festival. The festival organisers have released a few casks to local free houses. I really enjoyed this, and was tempted to give it five stars.

Sat at the bar and chatted to Chris the owner.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Whitstable - Kentish Reserve5.00GoodChris said that it had only been on half an hour and this was fresh and very good indeed especially from a brewery I don't always like.

Fairly quiet. I really wanted a pint of Dogbolter so I came for a quickie
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - DogBolter Dark Porter5.60ExceptionalNew brew kit but still a stunning beer. The fruit flavours and malts are outstanding
Adnams - Lighthouse3.40GoodFull of flavour for such a light ABV beer, good flavour of biscuit malts
17 Jun 2010 (Ian)
With the summer comes Summer Perle from Westerham to this underground bar, which makes me happy. I was a bit distracted as I had left my mobile phone at work.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Westerham - Summer Perle3.80ExcellentLove this beer. Light citrus and hoppy with a good pale malt backbone.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - DogBolter Dark Porter5.60Not TriedIf I'd had another 10 mins I would have had a pint of this.

Finally arrrived at 3pm and very busy. All ales on stillage and on the bar in top condition. Spoke to Chris, the owner, who always puts on a good festival. Possibly the best bar in Folkestone. Shall have to return soon to visit all the other pubs missed out today. Recommended.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - DogBolter Dark Porter5.60ExceptionalIn top conditon. A proper ale, a truly unmolested classic.
Dark Star - Saison4.50ExceptionalVery nearly a perfect "copy" of a classic Belgium ale. In top class condition today.
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest4.40ExceptionalOn the main bar here and in top codition. Very nice and sampled twice.
Rooster's - Celtic Corker3.90ExceptionalVery, very good. A new ale, and at last, some hops to taste! So good, sampled twice. In fact, what a "corker" of an ale!!
Brains - The Rev James Original4.50ExcellentA regular and very good offering from Wales.
Purity - Pure UBU4.50ExcellentA nice ale. Good taste.
Newmans - Spring Cottage Biscuit4.20ExcellentRefreshingly zesty summer ale.
Bridge of Allan - Spring Mist4.00GoodGood taste, refreshingly fruity.
Adnams - Irish Dry Stout4.00PoorNot brilliant. Sharp taste, no head/body. Distinct lack of dark roasted notes. Only the second poor ale today.
Sharp's - Six Hop3.80PoorOk, but where were the hops! An insult to hop lovers from what is normally a top brewer.
Adnams - Southwold Bitter3.70Not TriedAvailable.

The 7th Annual Easter Ale and Cider Festival starts on the Thursday evening and goes through to Easter Monday. Very popular and very busy on the Thursday evening with people eating as well as enjoying the beers and ciders. Chris always puts on a good choice, this year including Fruli Strawberry on tap which a colleague of mine was mixing with Biddenden cider.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - DogBolter Dark Porter5.60ExcellentNo, other word for it, excellent.
Westerham - Single Hop Bramling Cross4.00GoodFirst beer, gold, thin white head, bit of biscuit on the malts, decent blond ale with good hit of slightly earthy hop on finish.
Sharp's - Six Hop3.80GoodGolden colour. I wasn't expecting anything too hoppy, but this is very good. Very good smack of sherberty hop on the finish. An oddish acidic quality, but the hops are excellent.
Newmans - Spring Cottage Biscuit4.20AcceptableCopper colour with a slight haze, lasting beige head. Biscuit, yes, but a touch of rubber too. Yep, malt is ok, but rubber takes the edge off.
Rooster's - Celtic Corker3.90AcceptableGold, lasting thin head. It's a blond ale, some citrus hop, but not overly exciting.

It was a work colleagues birthday and she had invited some people for a drink here, well what could I say, other than "I'll have another pint."
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50GoodReally good pale ale, with biscuit malt and good biting hop on the finish. Very quaffable.
Rudgate - Ruby Mild4.40AcceptableGood condition, but with some diacetyl butteryness on the aroma.

Chris was behind the bar and friendly as always. Quite a few new people in enjoying the choice of different beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50GoodFresh on that day and really biscuity I thought.
Warwickshire - Darling Buds4.00AcceptableYeast and apple aroma. Ok bitter but none of the hops that the pump clip promises. Some yeast character carries through with some apple fruit. Fine but nothing exciting
