Very quiet, almost embarrassingly so, on a Monday evening. Some very saucy music videos being played on the TV in the main bar area.
Brew Wharf - Heirloom-AK | 4.40 | | Based (very loosely I think) on a 1930s Whitbread recipe. Described as a light mild – smooth malt with very bitter hop overlay from Northern Brewer and EKG. |
Brew Wharf - Nick & Nate's IPA | 6.60 | | This beer must have used up the entire contents of the Brew Wharf hop stash. A great hoppy aroma, big hop taste. Hops, hops, hops. |
14 Feb 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Brew Wharf - Heirloom-AK | 4.40 | | Brewed to a 1930s Whitbread light mild recipe but increased in strength and hop content. It reminds me of regional brews such as McMullens AK, M&B Brew XI, Bass 5 Star etc with that bready malt and appley fruit taste. Not particularly mild or pleasant. My score 14/20. |
31 Jan 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Brew Wharf - Single Hop - Dana | 5.50 | | Pale ale that is a touch too bitter for me. Dry, citrus flavours dominate with high levels of bitterness. My score 12/20. |
25 Jan 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Unusually quiet in here and Robert and I had the rare privilege of seats and a table in the main bar area. Some building work at the front seems to be putting people off from coming in. Worth noting that CAMRA members get 40p off a pint in here.
Brew Wharf - JP's Oatmeal Stout | 5.80 | | A full-on, roasted oatmeal stout. |
Brew Wharf - Single Hop - Dana | 5.50 | | A well-balanced, golden bitter with initial, pungent hop (Exstra Styrian Dana, from Slovenia) leading to a balanced finish. Seemed to fall flat quite quickly in the glass. |
22 Nov 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Brew Wharf - Bentinck K-50 | 5.60 | | Supposedly a French farmhouse style beer, this was a strong black ale that couldn't make up its mind what it was. There was malty bitterness, not much hop chararcter and a very dry finish. My score 13/20. |
01 Nov 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Brew Wharf - Kiwi Fruit | 4.50 | | Excellent pale hoppy beer packed full of tropical fruit and citrus flavours. Quite bitter but balanced by juicy fruit sweetenss that carries through to the finish. My score 16/20. |
Brew Wharf - Stellar | 5.00 | | Pale strong bitter with a very bitter hop charcater from a new Australian hop. A little too harsh and bitter for my taste. My score 13/20. |
11 Oct 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Brew Wharf - Son of Sand | 4.50 | | Very bitter golden beer. Very strong hoppiness with lots of citrus flavours. A little too harsh for my taste. My score 14/20. |
13 Sep 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Brew Wharf - Yellow Brick Road | 5.00 | | Amber in colour, very hoppy and bitter with a sharp, dry finish. Not really to my taste but well brewed. My score 14/20. |
30 Aug 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Brew Wharf - Space Invader | 4.00 | | Stuffed full of Galaxy hops giving a huge depth of fresh citrus hop flavours with some mango and peach thrown in for good measure. Lingering citrus finish of orange and grapefruit. My score 17/20. |
17 Aug 2011 (oz11)
Mid Afternoon, very quiet. £2 a half pint.
Kernel (The Kernel) - Kernel & Brew Wharf Collaboration | 4.50 | | On pump clip as "Collaboration Pale Ale". |
Brew Wharf - (with Saints & Sinners) Full English Oaked IPA | 5.60 | | With no frame of reference for an "Oaked IPA" I have to say this wasn't quite to my taste, but maybe it's the best of its style? |
