First day of the Trafalgar beer Festival here and a visit by the Thursday evening mild drinkers so the pub was buzzing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - XX Dark Mild (or Sussex XX Mild)3.00ExcellentSweet and malty with a hint of graininess and very low hop presence at it should be. My score 16/20.
Titanic - Mild3.50ExcellentNot quite as sweet as the Harveys with a drier malty character and hints of chocolate. My score 16/20.
Buffy's - Norwich Terrier3.60GoodNot tried this for ages, still a good session bitter with a good balance between maltiness and a little citrus hoppiness. My score 15/20.
White - Conqueror5.10GoodFull bodied and malty with a good biscuity flavour and a little hoppiness. My score 15/20.

Both bars were pretty full but we managed to get a seat in the corner. There were seven hand pumps on but I didn't manage to identify them all. This was an OK pub with a fairly young crowd in, lacked a bit of the atmosphere of the Evening Star though. Good nevertheless.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale)4.30GoodBlack with thin bubbly head that quickly disappeared. Quite full in the mouth with a reasonable chocolatey sweetness. This had a sharp sour finish. I quite liked it.

One of my favourite pubs in Brighton. A proper boozer with a public and lounge bar and almost the full range of Harvey's beers. Excellent. And only 5 minutes walk from the station.

Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale)4.30GoodLovely malts, slightly sweet fruit and that Harvey's yeasty aroma. Nice beer.

I got here around 18.20 on a Thursday evening and it was doing a pretty good trade and it took my 5 minutes to get a table. There was a private art gallery do on at 19.30 and I had the feeling that it was going to get busier. Excellent range of handpulled Harvey's beers plus some of the best pork scratchings I've had from Shakey's Traditional, Black Country
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodOne of the best bitters in the world. Good distinctive Harvey's yeast aroma. Nice apple fruit. Great hop on end.
Harvey's - Armada Ale4.50GoodCitrusy marmalade bitter and one of my favourites, I could sink pints of this stuff.
Harvey's - Bonfire Boy5.80GoodChestnut with disappearing head. Harvey's yeast and fruity malt aroma. Syrupy malt in mouth, some nice fruit. It's a good English strong beer, but lacks the heights.
Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale)4.30GoodDeep ruby, thin beige head. Harvey's yeast aroma. Bit of sour dark fruit. Drinkable in mouth. Some brown sugar. Very nice. Some good biting hop on end. Nice dark fruits in mouth. Very drinkable and slightly sweet.

The pub is found in Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 4ED.

Once one of, if not THE, top Harvey's pub in Brighton. Central bar serves two rooms at the front with additional space off the lounge bar and then a lower bar at the rear. Used to be lots of character in this once great British boozer but several refurbishments have ruined the fittings and ambience. Usually 5 Harveys beers on handpump through a total of 8 handpumps (5 in front bar and 3 at the rear). Only 5 minutes walk from the railway station down the slope that goes under the front of the station thus on the opposite side of the railway to the Evening Star. Refurbished and updated in 2013 with some wooden partition replacements with glass panels and once again in early 2016 (with several months of closure) to update the lower bar area and complete the destruction.

We have visited this pub 34 times, seen 21 different beers and tried 15 of them.
