Evening. Just one other customer on a drizzly autumn night. Great welcome from the Guv and much talk about Micropubs. The other customer was a right argumentative devil's advocate against my purist's definition of a Micropub. During his tirade he let on that the pub has served hog roast and had microphone assisted quizzes which both break the tenets and ethics of a Micropub. So what, I like this unique setting for a beer anyway.

***** Venue has announced it will close on 31st August 2023 permanently.***** Micropub located in Church Street (corner of Northdown Road) which opened on Good Friday 18th April 2014 although it had a pre-opening soirée the previous evening. A converted 19th century stable which serves cask ales, ciders and wines often (but not exclusively) locally produced. Handmade pork pies and Kent crisps and cheese make up the comestibles. The ales and ciders are dispensed by gravity from a cooled cabinet containing wooden stillage capable of holding 8 firkins with cider boxes on the top tier. From the street entrance is gained down a small slope and through a latched wicket gate. This leads to a patio area with wooden decking then to the stable building itself. The inside is floored with original cobbles often strewn with hay for that authentic stable feel. Unisex toilet behind 2 doors in the corner. CAMRA Thanet branch Pub of the Year 2015 and again in 2016. CAMRA East Kent Pub of the Year 2015 and again in 2016. CAMRA Kent Pub of the Year 2015 and subsequently in November 2015 selected as one of the last 4 in the CAMRA National 2015 PoTY competition. Thanet Council planning permission for conversion to a funeral director's office given 16th August 2024.

We have visited this pub 50 times, seen 62 different beers and tried 39 of them.
