A sunny Saturday afternoon with most of the customers sitting outside. I prefer to drink inside pubs so I had the place to myself although I did pop out for a while to be sociable as I happened to know most of the customers.

Packed with a quiz. 40 people taking part in this small micro. Barman told me he had sold about 7 casks in the last couple of days. Doing very well.

My favourite pub of the day. Haven't drunk in a stable for many years. Great atmosphere and informative landlord.

Evening. First visit to this new pub which was thriving with a good mix of customers. Guv says he is planning to enhance the cellar cabinet cooling but it was OK on this coolish wet night. Dog friendly with four at one time eyeing my compadre's pork pie. I don't think the layout will encourage the instant conversation between strangers that is so much a feature of most Micropubs.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Austell - Dartmoor Best Bitter (previously 3.9%)3.50GoodA West Country Boys' Bitter. I noted that the pub's menu blackboard claimed this as 4.2% but St Austell's own website is adamant that it is 3.5%
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 35.00AcceptableOK but had a scummy broken yeast head
Sharp's - Coaster (or Cornish Coaster)3.60Not Tried

***** Venue has announced it will close on 31st August 2023 permanently.***** Micropub located in Church Street (corner of Northdown Road) which opened on Good Friday 18th April 2014 although it had a pre-opening soirée the previous evening. A converted 19th century stable which serves cask ales, ciders and wines often (but not exclusively) locally produced. Handmade pork pies and Kent crisps and cheese make up the comestibles. The ales and ciders are dispensed by gravity from a cooled cabinet containing wooden stillage capable of holding 8 firkins with cider boxes on the top tier. From the street entrance is gained down a small slope and through a latched wicket gate. This leads to a patio area with wooden decking then to the stable building itself. The inside is floored with original cobbles often strewn with hay for that authentic stable feel. Unisex toilet behind 2 doors in the corner. CAMRA Thanet branch Pub of the Year 2015 and again in 2016. CAMRA East Kent Pub of the Year 2015 and again in 2016. CAMRA Kent Pub of the Year 2015 and subsequently in November 2015 selected as one of the last 4 in the CAMRA National 2015 PoTY competition. Thanet Council planning permission for conversion to a funeral director's office given 16th August 2024.

We have visited this pub 50 times, seen 62 different beers and tried 39 of them.
