25 Jul 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close. Local beer festival in Guy Earl of Warwick had brought N and SE London Branches' CAMRA custom here.
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Nuptu'ale | 4.20
Pig & Porter - Ashburnham Pale Ale | 3.80
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
22 Jul 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close. One group in the corner would have liked to have been left the keys!
Mighty Oak - Runaway Gold | 3.60 | | Guv Ray has a penchant for looking after Mighty Oak in a way many others fail to |
Kent - Brewers Reserve | 5.00 | | Had lost its edge |
Cottage - Sticky Wicket | 4.20 | | Sweetish brew. Can never build a beer loyalty to any Cottage brew as no idea what it will be like and will never see the same one again. |
Goody Ales - Bleangate Brewery - Genesis | 3.50 | Not Tried | Ran out |
19 Jul 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening. Local CAMRA branch members present confirmed that the pub has been awarded CAMRA Greater London Pub of the Year for 2014. Now onwards and upwards to the National finals!
Kent - Brewers Reserve | 5.00
Mighty Oak - Battle Cruiser | 4.30 | | Subtly different from yesterday |
Kent - Pale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Goody Ales - Bleangate Brewery - Genesis | 3.50 | Not Tried
18 Jul 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close. Seems as if The Door Hinge is well in the running to win the Greater London CAMRA Pub of the Year 2014 award. Spectacular.
Kent - Brewers Reserve | 5.00 | | Preview pint of one which will be on sale from tomorrow |
Mighty Oak - Battle Cruiser | 4.30 | | Wheat beer with very dry and bitter aftertaste |
Mighty Oak - Highly Strung | 4.00 | | A strawberry blonde. I was edgy about trying it but in the end the strawberry was incorporated into a dry tasting beer very well |
Mighty Oak - Night Owl | 4.00 | Not Tried
12 Jul 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close.
Mighty Oak - Night Owl | 4.00 | | A porter with excellent head retention |
Kent - Pale | 4.00 | | |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
RCH - Steamed Flames Bitter | 4.50 | Not Tried | Ran out on pouring the pint. The barmaid would not hand it over |
05 Jul 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close.
Kent - Pale | 4.00 | | |
Itchen Valley - Citra Hop | 4.40 | | Intense flavour but one was enough |
Goody Ales - Bleangate Brewery - Genesis | 3.50 | | The Guv was knocking this out at £2.50 pp as he was not sure it was spot on. Did go a bit flat someway down the glass |
27 Jun 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening last knockings.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70
Phoenix - Midsummer Madness | 4.50 | | First rate - best Phoenix I think I have ever had and it is well off patch here |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
21 Jun 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close.
Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | | I have not had Lightning like this for years so much so that I had recently avoided it |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | | Almost perfection - indeed I am wondering why I do not say 5*s |
20 Jun 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening. Too late for unforeseen earlier 9pm Friday closing tonight. Maybe Guv Ray had heard that Balotelli was on his way to give him a kiss!! Being serious there had been an emergency.
13 Jun 2014 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Common Conspiracy | 4.80 | | 4½* - unbeatable condition for a beer with all the complex smells and tastes of a superb Kentish ale |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Summer Ale | 3.90 | | In good nick but not a single distinguishing feature in this beer |
B&T (Banks & Taylor's) - "On me 'ed son" | 4.10 | Not Tried | Only a taster - not fair to mark in full. Very dry aftertaste which I thought metallic but others here were loving it |
