I was in the city for a Lynyrd Skynyrd gig so fancied checking out a few pubs first. Haven't been here before and I'd heard good things, I was worried it would be a restaurant with a small bar area but in fact it's just a modern pub that sells food really. Really good place with a great selection of beer on cask, keg and in bottles. Other than the high prices this place is pretty faultless.

Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Ashford4.20ExcellentI really, really liked this, a borderline 5 star beer in my opinion. Malty brown bitter with a chocolatey flavour to it. Incredibly moreish.
1648 - Brew Master3.90AcceptableNot a bad beer, fruity with a little toffee and hop. Little unimaginative but perfectly drinkable.

I was planning to come on Saturday, but with the Brew Dog Sink The Bismarck event at The Rake, I took a couple of hours off work on Friday afternoon and caught the fast train to here. An hour to do Ashford to the pub was pretty good going I thought. Fantastic pub and one that I will be coming to frequently now. I love Thornbridge and to have 3 of their beers on all the time is great. I also had a fantastic bottle of German Helles.

Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Hark4.80ExcellentSpicier than when I had it last year I thought. Not as spicy as Dark Star Winter Meltdown though. Really drinkable.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Equinox5.90ExcellentA Vienna IPA. OK I am expecting this to be glorious. Some grapefruit hop on aroma. Good hop sting in mouth. Vienna malts are quite pronounced in the flavour in the mouth. The hops are assertive, then really juicy and fruity on the finish. They blend well with the malts. The finish goes on and on and on. Great condition too. Oh man that is glorious. Full Vienna malts and juicy pink grapefruit flavours.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Exposed4.00ExcellentA strawberry and pink peppercorn stout. Very dark ruby, lasting thin beige head. Aroma of a choccy stout. Bit of burnt roast in mouth. Touch of the promised strawberry. Then the sweeetness of the strawvverry and bite of the peppercorns kick in. Some charcoal hints, but the strawverry is just right, subtle, then the pepper takes it on with the hops to give it a good biting finish. They have pulled it off, amazing how they have pulled off the ingredients and the blending of the flavours.
Dark Star - Six Hop6.50GoodMore syrupy alcoholic and less hoppy than last year's version.
