01 Jan 2013 (Philip Pirrip)
Arrived shortly after midnight so really a 2013 visit. Superb to see a pub that was "forcibly" closed up a month or so ago thriving like this tonight. Who'd a thought it back then!

30 Dec 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Just the job for a stop-off and a late sausage roll lunch after a day squelching through Kentish mud.
Harbour - India Pale Ale | 5.00 | | Amber-coloured, with good fruity and bitter hop character. |
RedWillow - Macclesfield Bitter | 3.90 | | A pale beer with lots of hops but slightly lacking in body. |
Anarchy - Christmas Chaos | 4.50 | | A very full-bodied, fruity dark beer with a warming hint of rum. |
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
Moor - Old Freddy Walker | 7.30 | Not Tried

After midnight morning visit.

16 Dec 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening. Nearly caught out as pub is now closing an hour earlier on Sundays and may be closing earlier on Mondays and Tuesdays. Pity indeed as a USP for this house is (was) its humane opening hours.

Marble - Ginger Marble | 4.50 | Not Tried
Marble - Pint (was 3.9%) | 3.40 | Not Tried

09 Dec 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
After midnight morning visit. The pub re-opened on Friday evening. Still inevitably feeling a bit disorganised as the operation restarts but a good range of beer had settled into good condition. The bar back proudly announced "We Win" and "We are back!"
Offbeat - Out of Step IPA | 5.80 | | Best of the evening here |
Hardknott - Duality | 4.50 | | Clip said "A scientifically schizophrenic beer". I could not quite put my finger on a taste description - superb clarity perhaps orangey notes |
Clarence & Fredericks - Golden Ale | 3.80 | | New brewery for me - Croydon based. Very very light coloured and a tad hazy and the old citrus taste |
Offbeat - Outlandish Pale | 3.90 | Not Tried
Lakeland (formerly Stringers) - No 2 Stout | 4.00 | Not Tried | Ran out before I could order |
20 Nov 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. DISASTER, A TRAVESTY SOMEHOW!!!! Asked why the free plates of chips were on the bar to which the answer was an instant wake had begun. At 2000 hours the guvnor had been told by the Antic MD that the pub was to close at close of business because allegedly the property owner had applied instant lease termination. Apparently it was legally a "tenancy at will". This dampener takes a lot of taking in and the gathered throng waked well past bedtime as did I.
Is the battle to save the pub over or has it just had a temporary setback?
Tiny Rebel - Dirty Stop Out | 5.00 | | Rich tasting and moreish tonight |
Marble - Best | 4.30 | | Very good but the bad news prompted a glass of something stronger! |
East London (ELB) - Pale Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Revolutions - Devolution | 4.50 | Not Tried
Buxton - Target | 3.80 | Not Tried

12 Nov 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening.
Kernel (The Kernel) - India Pale Ale Citra - Columbus Summit (on keg) | 7.40 | | Excellent foil to the 2 earlier choices |
Hastings - Best Bitter | 4.10 | | Clip shows as unfined. Just an OK beer as I thought it lacked full conditioning |
Cronx - Fallout Autumn Ale | 4.60 | | A Croydon based brewing outfit. The beer poured and stayed as flat as the proverbial pancake - no head whatsoever. Nevertheless a full flavoured red ale |
Wantsum - Fortitude (was 4.2%) | 4.60 | Not Tried
Bristol Beer Factory - Acer | 3.80 | Not Tried
Devilfish - The Darkness | 4.50 | Not Tried
