A few locals in but would have been quiet if it wasn't for our coach party of mild drinkers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rother Valley - Smild3.80ExcellentSmooth and fruity with a toasted malt background taste. My score 17/20.
Moorhouse's - Black Panther4.80ExcellentSmooth, well rounded and velvety with quite a sweet, malty taste. My score 16/20.

Called in to get the beer list for next weekend's beer fest. The staple 5 beers were on offer plus 4 others. Time was when the guests were really good but recently not so. Time was when this pub won Camra plaudits - come on Richard re-inspire us with some more significant beers. We realise your desire to support local ales (why Doom Bar?) but surely 1 out of 9 or 10 could come from cutting edge brewers from afar. Alternatively how about Ansty?
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rother Valley - Mild3.60GoodThis drank quite well. Distinct malt taste makes this little bro to Summertime Blues. Not sure i have the strength right.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Old Original5.20AcceptableOnce again, drank like a weaker beer, lacking in flavours but balanced.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Sunchaser4.00AcceptableCrystal clear light ale well served but one dimensional, lacking complexity of flavour. More like a 3.4
Thwaites - Original Bitter3.60Not Tried

A clear evening. We arrived late in the day. It's a shame the trees block the last hour of sun from every part of the huge back garden. I was tempted to drink my beer with the sheep in the field opposite. I love this pub, bugger to get to though.
BeerABVScoreNotes
King Beer (formerly W.J. King) - Dragon's T'Ale6.10ExcellentCoarse and cloudy but a scrumptious tangy malt that totally redeems the scruffy appearance. Really quaffable. Loved it.
Rother Valley - Smild3.80GoodDark, roasty and toasty. A permanent winner.
Rooster's - Farmhouse4.30GoodFruity and quenching, a most enjoyable pint, as expected.
King Beer (formerly W.J. King) - Spring Ale4.10AcceptableNot cloudy but full of 'aledruff' so I didn't drink it all. Love the Kings malt but the hops need to be livelier here.
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale3.70Not TriedThink Goachers may be behind the house ale "Halfway To Paradise" too but not sure.

I'm pleased Andrew liked this pub too. I love the interior all wood and beams and different rooms. Good beer line up too if you like Kent microbrews.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Larkins - Porter5.20GoodDecent porter with some choc and coffee. Bit watery and not as grainy as it could be. Reasonably full.

Kent pub of the year. Lovely interior with lots of nooks and crannies. Good beer line up too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout4.50ExcellentFull bodied with hints of smoak and lots of acrid burntness.
Larkins - Porter5.20GoodRich burnt malt with silky body and subtle burnt finish. Not as good as it was at the Rock though

Sunday evening and I came here with Phil (thanks for the lift). Reasonably busy, but there is plenty of seating in the lower room. A good mix of locals with some sat at the bar. I can see myself coming here again in the better weather when I can cycle from Paddock Wood station. Lovely location and building.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Larkins - Chiddingstone4.00GoodCopper coloured bitter which I thought had a bit of nuttiness to it. Very drinkable best bitter.
Harviestoun - Good King Legless4.50AcceptableCopper colour, disappearing head. Just a bit dull on the aroma. Biscuity malt, some toffee, some sharp hop that is a bit sherberty. Not as intense as I would expect a Harviestoun beer to be. Reasonable fullness in mouth, some nuttiness. Dryish finish.
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale3.70Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00Not Tried
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cumberland Ale4.00Not Tried
Rother Valley - Smild3.80Not TriedHad a sip of Phil's and this was excellent. Wish I had had it. In very good condition.

All real ale is served on gravity from casks behind the single wooden bar. There is a large garden at the rear. Runner up CAMRA Kent Pub of the Year 2012.

We have visited this pub 46 times, seen 179 different beers and tried 88 of them.
