Ok so its not the best pub in the world but it is right next to the railway station and the beer quality is very good for any pub now never mind for a 'Spoons. I really trust this pub for beer now. Usual mix of drinkers and office types at 5 in the afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Summerskills - Barley Mow4.80ExcellentAroma of toffee sour fruits and malt. Great condition and lovely deep malts great sour fruit and bit of sting on finish. Great beer i would have again.
St Austell - Proper Job4.50GoodReally drinkable english IPA with a usa hop twist. Great mouth feel. Just a bit too much toffee on this half. Still very good though.

Certainly the better of the 2 Spoons in Maidstone now for beer. And so close to the station you can run out, get a quick pint and catch a train five minutes later, great for connections.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Salopian - Darwin's Origin4.30ExcellentAfter drinking some disappointing festival beers, this was superb. Gold, lasting beige head. Lots of grapefruit hop on aroma. Lots of hops everywhere. That is excellent uber hoppy beer for the UK. Resiny hops, lovely.
JW Lees (see also Lees) - Hopping Mad3.50GoodDark ruby, lasting dark beige head. It’s like a mild. Sweetish malt. Really quite a good mild. Not sure what the hop angle is unless you wanted a hoppy beer, then had this, then you would be hopping mad. But as a mild totally fine.
Bend Brewing - Wild Blue Yonder4.80Acceptable In the style of an amber ale, but lacks the PNW hop kick. Malts are alright, some nice red fruit, some hop dryness, but as I say so disappointing that the brewer hadn’t brought more hops with her. My big hope for this festival dampened by a lack of courage and ambition. Not all of us like bland boring beers.
Hook Norton - Jackpot3.80AcceptableEgg and cheese mayo sandwich on the aroma. Not too good to be honest, but some Hook Norton yeast character does save it somewhat.
17 Apr 2009 (Andrew)
It's a spoons by a station. I was only here because of Ian's desire to sip more spoonsfest beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Salopian - Darwin's Origin4.30GoodNot actually a festival beer which was a shame as it was better than those festival beers I tried. Rich orangy syrupy beer with lots of citrus hops.
JW Lees (see also Lees) - Hopping Mad3.50AcceptableDark mild. Sweet and malty with a bit of burntness. Bit tart.
Bend Brewing - Wild Blue Yonder4.80PoorA red early hopped Irish style beer. Why? Poor.
Hook Norton - Jackpot3.80PoorBad eggy yeasty tart stuff.
