My old mate Mr. Harris was in town so we met up for a drink. It was good to see Mr. H. and hear how he's getting on at Tory Central. The Dolphin was fairly quiet. There were 3 young guys playing scrabble in the front and some girls at the rear expressing their need for cider. This pub is a long way from the flag-covered edgy affair it used to be. I like it (but then I liked it when it was edgy too). ...and 2 Kent micros on. Good on 'em.

Adrian and I were going to see what the New Inn was like now it's under new management but it was closed for refurbishment. The garden at the Dolphin seemed the next best thing so we sat at the back and baked in the sun.

Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Summer's Day4.30ExcellentWhen it came out a darkish brown colour I was a little shocked given that its name implied to me 'lightness'. Anyway I got over that quickly. What a nice beer. A strong toasted malt bite dominates with astringent-sweet-sour hops on the end. An excellent best bitter.

Really busy with a great atmosphere. Although there was a very drunk, very strange fellow who had wet himself and was hassling the customers.

Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider4.30GoodPretty good pint of seasider. Light and malty with a little caramel.
Sharp's - Doom Bar4.00Not TriedHad a slug of my mates and it was on great form.

Since a last drink at Simple Simon's was not going to happen we came here. Nice pub with a well mannered clientel.

Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 35.00ExcellentExcellent. Pale orange gold colour with balding head. Tart gooseberry flavours with hints of sweet strawberry dominated. Good hop character too.

Popped in for the Gadds No.3 that Ian had spotted coming into town. It went off as we ordered it and the barman's comments about 'having to go and tilt the barrel' suggested that we go else where. Shame as I like this pub.

Popped in with Mr H. for a quick pint. The pub was busy with work Christmas lunches but we got a seat fine. This pub hasn't half changed since my youth when it had flags on the ceilings and KBB on. The landlord poured off a pint before serving mine too. Good man.

Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 35.00ExcellentPale gold colour with a light frothy head. Initial hints of strawberry with a pleasant lemon grass hop astringency to it. Excellent stuff.

Although we didn't go in here it's worth noting that they had on a Gadd's beer!

Sat in the garden which was virtually full with young people playing Guess Who and Trivial Pursuit. I like this pub but the range of beers is a bit static.

Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30GoodWell served. Golden, light ale with a malty twang. I quite like it.

Called in with my daughter. It was pretty full with lots of people eating.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sharp's - Doom Bar4.00GoodProbably the first one to have this today as the barman pulled of almost a pint before pouring mine. A fairly standard mid brown pint, but excellently served. Clear, with a soft foam head. Slightly sweet malt, bitter balance and very drinkable.

I was beered out by the time we got here and we had a train to catch, so I went on the wine. We sat at the back on a table that was reserved from 8.30, so I suppose it gets busy later on. There were quite a few in though (educated, sophisticates at a guess). The landlord also has an impressive collection of toy cars / trucks etc that he keeps on show at the back. The verdict was "great" definitely one to come back too - might even be the Canterbury regular from now on.
