First time I've ever been here. Big hand written sign on the door saying "home fans only". I was neither "home" or "away" so guess it was okay for me to enter. The pub was not quite what I thought it would be from what I'd been told. Pleasant enough.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead Galaxy3.80AcceptableBit cold. Bit of diacetyl. Bit of eggy aroma. Hop was bit too grapefruit rind for me. Prefer the original Hophead personally

Busy but not so that I couldn't get a table during my visit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Waen - Rush and a Push4.30AcceptableRuby bitter with a fairly sharp but winey character with some hop and a hint of toasted malt. Sharpish dry finish. My score 14/20.
10 Jun 2012 (ChrisE)
A large group of us met here at lunchtime, and most of them were still there when I left at 6pm. A most enjoyable afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40ExcellentThis was taken off sale after various people returned their pints. Fortunately a fresh cask was put on sale, and that was excellent Hophead as it should be.
Dark Star - Sunburst4.80Excellent
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Old Street Pale5.00ExcellentDelicious, I had a couple of these and decided that a return visit to the King William IV might be in order.
Tryst - Citra3.90Good

The pub is found in Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 3PB.

One room pub near Brighton's main railway station in Surrey Street. This used to be home to the Dark Star brewery, before the beer production got too big for the pub and they moved to Anstey, West Sussex. However, Dark Star's influence remains with the draught beer range containing many of their beers. With 10 handpumps (including 3 reserved for cider) sported in total there are a several handpumps given over to other UK micros as well as taps for Dark Star keg beers, new wave keg beers and continental beers. Several ciders round off the main bar. However, in the fridge behind the bar is one of the best ranges of world beers in a British pub, with Belgium and Germany dominating. Lots of wood in evidence in this fairly small pub and the curved bar is squeezed into one corner. Tables and chairs line the walls. Live music is also regularly available. All year outside seating by the pavement. A must if you are anywhere south of the Midlands.

We have visited this pub 73 times, seen 217 different beers and tried 84 of them.
