31 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Looks like another incredibly busy evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Salopian - Golden Thread5.00AcceptableLike drinking a strong lemonade shandy.
Offbeat - Crazy Christmas4.20AcceptableA nice beer lurking beneath a strage assortment of overpowering herbs and spices - mainly corioander.
Joule's - Pure Blonde (was Blonde)3.80AcceptableCrisp and a little tangy. A bit boring.
29 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Absolutely packed. Great to see so many people enjoying a good pub and a good pint.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Slater's - Supreme4.70GoodI always struggle with this beer, it is so good but difficult to say why. Good all round beer.
George Wright - Three French Hens3.90GoodTasty, malty bitter.
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - The Adventures of Captain Chrimbo5.40GoodA golden IPA. Grassy and malty and citrussy and hoppy. Very nice.
26 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
After all the excitement, a quiet pint. Wonderful.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rat - Rat Attack3.80ExcellentAnother classic from this brewery. A full on bitter - cracking!
McGivern Ales - Bridge Bitter4.10GoodA mellow, nutty start and a bitter / sweet, medium dry finish.
Salopian - Firkin Freezin4.10GoodNice to see a lighter Christmas beer. Crisp and fruity with a fairly dry finish.
24 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
A pub is for life, not just for Christmas. Absolutely heaving.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rat - White Rat4.00ExceptionalI've salivated and commented on this beer before. Stunning, simply stunning!
Sarah Hughes - Dark Ruby6.00ExcellentThis was as I remember it, bags of fruit and liquorice. Perfect balance and so easy to drink. Be very wary at 6.0%.
Spitting Feathers - Thirst Quencher3.90GoodMiddle of the road bitter with a moderately dry finish.
Rat - Black Death6.50GoodDark and mellow, good flavours without being too pronounced and overpowering.
22 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Very, very busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Merlin - The Wizard4.20ExcellentVery good, golden, malty bitter. Lingering bitter aftertaste.
Wye Valley - Christmas Whiskers4.50GoodA stronger bitter with a fruity tang.
McGivern Ales - A Bridge Too Far5.00GoodLots of dark, mellow flavours.
15 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Very busy Saturday evening. Great to see so many people having a good time (responsibly). Charming staff and a good selection of beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wye Valley - Butty Bach4.50GoodMiddle of the road, nothing exceptional.
RedWillow - Headless3.90GoodA well hopped, nicely balanced bitter.
Scarborough - Stout4.60PoorThe usual roasty, toasty, nutty flavours were there but not pronounced. This was more like a cross between a bitter and a stout.
09 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Great choice of top beers as usual. Found some good reading. Great.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Heavy Industry - Electric Mountain3.80ExcellentGood earthy bitter.
Northumberland - Santa's Surprise4.00GoodSyrupy aroma and sweetness, good clean finish.
Steamin' Billy (contract brewed by various) - Bitter4.30GoodDistinctive, sharp bitter.
Facer's - Beerjolais Nouveau 20104.30GoodNicely hopped, malty bitter. A little on the thin side.
01 Dec 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Great beers and some good beer chat going on. Ever pleasant staff and wonderful proper pub atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rat - Rat out of Hell6.00ExcellentI say! Sublime, wonderful, stunning, nutty, fruity stout / porter type beer. Mellow flavours and a grsdual burnt bitterness to finish.
Purity - Pure Gold3.80GoodAnother top notch malty bitter.
Purity - Pure UBU4.50GoodSo much going on - perhaps a little too much. Slightly thin on body.
Exeter - 'fraid Not4.00GoodStale toast malt and well hopped bitter. I think 'earthy bitter' is an excellent description. Very good.
24 Nov 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
A pub as a pub should be, an absolute delight to visit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Liverpool Organic - Liverpool Pale Ale4.00ExcellentA must whenever and wherever I see this beer. A premium, malty, pale bitter. Bags of flavour.
McGivern Ales - Bridge Bitter4.10GoodGolden ale. A soft, toasty malt to start, then a bit of a lull followed by a fairly bitter finish. Pleasant aftertaste - inspired.
Salopian - Golden Thread5.00AcceptableCertainly a Salopian beer - too similar to other Salopian ales and in my opinion, not as good.
Dunham Massey - Ruby Sunset4.10AcceptableDeep golden red in colour. Tastes were certainly delicate - needed a bit more OOMPH! for me.
Waen - TWA3.70AcceptableGolden ale. Thin malty sweetness followed by a thin dry finish.
21 Nov 2012 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
A quiet mid week early evening. Good reading, warm fire and excellent ales - what more can a British man ask for.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Stonehouse - Sunlander3.70ExcellentStraw coloured, fragrant citrus aroma and a well balanced delicate malt and citrus combination. Packed with flavour.
Cheshire Brewhouse - DBA4.60GoodA beautifully crafted, traditional beer. Good malt, fruit and hops leading to a madium dry finish. Seemed to slip down effortlessly.
Liverpool Organic - Joseph Williamson 'Tunnale'4.00GoodTradutional English bitter i.e. not too bitter - all the classic flavours but a little thin on body.
