Busy on the Jubilee Tuesday Bank Holiday afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hogs Back - Majest.e.a.5.20GoodRuby/amber beer with a fairly sweet, malty character. Full bodied with a fairly dry, fruity finish. My score 15/20.
Weltons - Elizabeth II 6X6.00GoodPale gold and quite well balanced with some fruity hop flavours. Fairly dry finish. My score 15/20.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Nine Tenths Below5.90GoodStrong, smooth golden ale with a real malty kick with hints of biscuit and toffee. Hop character is fairly restrained but the smooth malty mouthfeel gives the beer plenty of body. My score 15/20.

Evening, just time for a quick half before the bus. Quality of the one beer tried was so much better than my previous visit here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Wild Rider IPA5.50GoodVery nice, maybe even a 4* rating, but my palate was pretty jaded by this point of the day.

Just time for a couple of halves before the bus home. Disappointing quality on this visit. For a chain that prides itself on championing micro breweries this was very poor and should do better.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Phoenix - March Hare4.40AcceptableTasted okay but was hazy enough for the chap next to me to send his back.
Wooden Hand - Pirate's Gold4.00PoorWarm, flat and lifeless.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Springhead - Willy's Wheatbeer5.00AcceptableVery pale and clear for a wheat beer but still with that slightly sour taste that I'm not to keen on. My score 13/20.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Wychwood (now brewed at Banks's) - King Goblin (superseded by 6.6% version)6.00AcceptableStrong red beer with a mainly malty character. Some appley fruitiness but little hop character. My score 14/20.
Caledonian - Zululand Zulu Blonde4.50AcceptablePale with a sharp piney hop character. Sharp, dry finish that is not really to my taste. My score 13/20.
25 Mar 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
