2310 'til midnight. A friendly relaxed atmosphere. Got into conversation with a Sandford Orchards cider drinking gentlemen who had been on the electric Hayes train hit from behind by the steam Ramsgate train in the 1957 Lewisham railway crash. He was sitting in a coach towards the front and felt more of a jolt. Live history.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Burnham No 3 Pale Session Bitter3.80ExcellentFor its strength very full flavoured bitter sweet mix. Only £2.50 pp compared with the rest at £3.40. Some debate about its provenance although clearly brewed by Hopdaemon as stated on the clip. Pub has already had a No 2! The pub's owner Antic is planning to set up its own brewery so the guess is that it has created the Burnham brand and is temporarily contracting out the brewing to Hopdaemon

Visit was late until close. Once again staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend a visit here and to The Ravensbourne Arms nearby to all Pubs and Beer correspondents and browsers - you will be pleasantly surprised in South East London.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kernel (The Kernel) - India Pale Ale - Citra (on keg)7.30ExcellentHad 2 of these even at £5 pp. Cloudy keg but full of flavour
Kent - Zingiber4.10GoodThought this tasted more watery than on previous quaffs so, rarely, did not linger with a second pint of the same I'd usually have when Zingibering

2315 hours visit until close. Last orders called 2335 for 2345 shutters down - about 15 minutes earlier than the usual midnighter I thought.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Peter's - Ruby Red Ale4.30ExcellentHeld a good head and in good nick. These, what I call, Irish Reds not really to my palate
Otley - Oxymoron5.50ExcellentSophisticated tastes as the pint went down. Good head throughout and liquorice tones emerged perhaps half way down. Badged as one of the Otley limited brew range that are currently ubiquitous
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Lord Marples4.00GoodDid not have the body or full taste I expected
24 Jun 2012 (Stephen Harris)
You can’t beat a good day out around the Lewisham area, and that was my fate today. This is a great revival of this formerly rather dubious pub. Plenty of families arriving for Sunday lunch, and notably pleasant service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hardknott - Light Cascade3.40ExcellentLow strength, high hop rate. Quite dry. Amber coloured.
Binghams - Doodle Stout5.00ExcellentA full-on, black, roasted stout with some fruity hops in the finish.

2358 hours visit so dated for Saturday. Pub bustling - perhaps a refuge from persistent heavy rain outside. Comparatively small range of handpumped real ales tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes

The pub is found in Catford, Greater London, SE6 4RE.

A large brewers' tudor pub on the over rail bridge by Catford and Catford Bridge railway stations. Formerly the Copperfield and before that Courage's Railway Tavern. Leased by the Antic Group after a period of closure then as at October 2012 the ultimate owner of the pub put in a planning application to change use of upper floors to accommodation which was dependent on a separate planned change of use of the pub to National retail i.e. a supermarket chain. A very vociferous "Save the Catford Bridge Tavern" campaign was launched. However this was after the pub had been forced to close at 4 hours notice as the "tenancy at will" had been terminated. Then re-opened on a new short term lease on evening of Friday 7th December 2012. Antic said it hoped to negotiate a longer more permanent lease in due course. CAMRA awarded this pub its S.E. London Branch Pub of the Year award for 2013 in March 2013. CAMRA's London Drinker magazine September / October 2013 edition reported that the private owner of this pub had opted to sell the freehold to another company, Camden Bars, which would take over running the pub in early 2014 but this did not seem to happen. Finally closed as an Antic house at close of business Sunday 24th November 2013. Heavy metal shuttering added to all doors and windows during late evening 29th November 2013. Suffered a serious fire to upper floors on Sunday 1st March 2015 whilst still closed. Finally re-opened after quite a smartening up inside on 30th March 2017 and run by Solitaire. Carries 4 handpumps in the front bar, the rear room with its open to view kitchen is more food oriented. All handpumps removed in 2021 but restored in June 2023 under Portobello Brewery as new site operators.

We have visited this pub 79 times, seen 289 different beers and tried 121 of them.
