Evening pint after a day out in Essex. Pub relatively quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Saltaire - Blackberry Cascade4.80ExcellentVery fruity and tasty.
Crate - Rye5.50Not TriedA stonking £5 a pint, reduced from six pounds plus because it wasn’t shifting. The staff were unable to explain why a beer brewed no more than a mile away should be so pricy.
Signature Brew - Session N.Z. hopped bitter (Pacifica)4.00Not Tried
Volden - Session (or Session Ale)3.80Not Tried
TicketyBrew - Rice Pudding Ale4.20Not TriedSomehow didn't appeal.

I have recently signed-up to Facebook and discover that one of the drawbacks is that you can no longer hush-up the date of your birthday. Consequently an evening on the beer here with a small group of good friends. There was also a Roosters beer, but I forget which one.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Great Heck - Fancy Beer4.50ExcellentLiked this a lot, sadly it ran out after a couple. A golden beer, well-hopped with Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin and Columbus.
Volden - Pale (formerly Pale Ale) was 4.6%4.20GoodPale, hazy and a bit sharp.

Another first for me and made possible by the fact that this pub now opens at 12:00 instead of the previous 16:00 opening. A good crowd in the main bar enjoying football on the television so I ventured in to one of the other rooms and had an unplanned meeting with a friend who was sitting in there by herself to avoid the football. We had a couple of pints and a good chat.

Mid-evening visit following a day-trip to Hastings. Not busy. Some nice live music with a singer who was switching effortlessly from English to Spanish to Portuguese.

Packed and very boisterous at lunchtime. It seems that a lot of folk are down from Northampton for this afternoon’s football at Brisbane Road.

A relatively quiet, Monday evening session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
London Fields - Hackney Hopster4.20ExcellentI haven’t seen this beer for ages and have lost track of where it might be brewed these days. I’d forgotten how good it is – a full-bodied, hoppy Pale Ale.
King Beer (formerly W.J. King) - Lost Kingdom5.20ExcellentGolden in colour. A rather mellow IPA-style beer; dry and bitter.
King Beer (formerly W.J. King) - Elixir #1 APA4.80ExcellentGolden in colour, and clear. A really good APA-type with lots of fruity hop flavours.

Early evening, after moving on here with a group of friends when the O’s Supporters Club closes early due to transport difficulties. Relatively uncrowded in here. There must be something in the St Stephen’s Day air because, for the second time today, I have to avoid aggressive drunks at the bar – three very dubious characters eventually being bundled out on to the street by the bouncers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur5.90ExcellentFirst class IPA; always a good choice.
Volden - Porter5.20GoodNot bad at all.

Early to mid-evening. Pub quiz night, so inevitably crowded.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Volden - Porter5.20ExcellentA very nice, black Porter with roasted barley flavours.

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E10 5OJ.

In High Road, initially this pub existed as a short-term ‘Pop-Up’ pub, open for the duration of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Then closed for nearly a year, it re-opened on a permanent basis in August 2013. The pub is housed in part of the former Leyton Town Hall. It has several different rooms in which to drink, and the toilets are housed deep in the dungeons. The interior of the pub is now very much more homely and comfortable than it appears in my early photo on this site from its pop-up days. Reclaimed by landlord and closed on October 2022, after alleged non-payment of rent. Re-opened under operation of Remarkable Pubs with a change of name in September 2024.

We have visited this pub 125 times, seen 256 different beers and tried 139 of them.
