Very busy. Good to see that the novelty isn't wearing off and that there's a market, even in Aberdeen, for quality craft ale.
BrewDog - Mikkeller I Hardcore You (keg) | 9.50 | | Ultra-hoppy blend of Hardcore IPA and Mikkeller's I Beat You tones down Hardcore to a smoother finish. |
BrewDog - Punk IPA (keg) | 6.00 | | A bit tired but still more enjoyable than the Punk X replacement.
Now sold as Punk '10. |
BrewDog - Punk IPA (keg) | 5.40 | | Now brewed to 5.4% this is the new Punk IPA which was trialled as Punk X. Lots of aroma hops let bown in the mouth by overpowering sweetness. A dumbed down Punk IPA? No, completely different and NOT as satisfying. Memorably described elsewhere as 'All nose and no trousers'. Backward step by BrewDog. |
BrewDog - 77 Lager (keg) | 4.90 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Hardcore IPA (keg) | 9.20 | Not Tried
BrewDog - 5AM Saint (keg) | 5.00 | Not Tried

BrewDog - Tokyo (keg) | 15.20 | Not Tried | Note: this is 18.2% but can't enter above 15!! |
Mikkeller - I Beat yoU (keg) | 9.50 | Not Tried | Brewed at BrewDog. |
BrewDog - Alice Porter (keg) | 6.20 | Not Tried
24 Dec 2010 (McGargle)
Lively. Staff kitted out as (Tactical NUclear) Penguins.
BrewDog - There Is No Santa (keg) | 4.70 | | Although described as a stout this seemed more like a spiced winter warmer. Pouring a very dark brown with no real head, the aromas are chocolate and cinnamon with cinnamon particularly carrying through. Tasted more like dried powder than fresh bark had been used. OK but not moreish. |
09 Dec 2010 (McGargle)
Busy. Young, predominantly male clientèle. Staff still keen to give tasters.
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde (keg) | 4.10 | | Light bodied beer well balanced with plenty of citrus hops. Dry, satisfying finish. |
BrewDog - Eurotrash (keg) | 4.10 | | This is Trashy Blonde brewed with a Belgian yeast. Slightly sweeter with more pronounced fruit on the finish. Citrus hoppiness less evident - still a very good beer.
Great to see that Brew Dog brewers are encouraged to experiment. |

Busy. Great staff - enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
Nøgne Ø - 500 (keg) | 10.00 | | Enticing fresh hop aromas. Excellent, firm malt body overlaid with intense fruit flavours from Nelson Sauvin hops. Very well balanced. A refined version of Hardcore IPA. |

18 Nov 2010 (McGargle)
Meet the brewer night with Mikkel Borg Bjergsø (founder and Brewmaster Mikkeller) and Kjetil Jikiun (founder and Brewmaster of Nøgne Ø). As you'd expect the place was packed to the rafters.
After this session the beers will be served in turn so we can look forward to a fantastic range over the next couple of weeks.
BrewDog - Chaos Theory (keg) | 7.10 | | Reddish amber in the glass. Sweet grapefruit aromas then the hops kick in for the flavour. Orange, fresh grapefruit and some pine finely balanced by the smooth malt. Dangerously drinkable. |
Mikkeller - To Via From (keg) | 8.00 | | Mikkel described this as his porter but it seemed more of an Imperial Stout. Black in the glass with long lasting tight dark beige head. Some roast flavours but mostly bark fruits. Excellent smooth body with long dry finish. |
Mikkeller - Spontanale (keg) | 5.00 | | A Danish gueuze pouring an opaque red brown. Familiar aromas and flavours - think wet dogs, farmyards etc - and dryness on the finish. A good ale but not as focussed as, say, Drie Fontainen or Girardin. |

11 Nov 2010 (McGargle)
Pleasantly full but only one person serving.
BrewDog - 5AM Saint (keg) | 5.00 | | A little toned down. Booming resinous flavouts not so apparent. |
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde (keg) | 4.10 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Hardcore IPA (keg) | 9.20 | Not Tried

31 Oct 2010 (McGargle)
Surprisingly quiet.
BrewDog - Punk X IPA (keg) | 5.60 | | Imagine a blend of 5am Saint and Punk IPA and you have this. It misses the focus and freshness of Punk and the booming hops of 5am. If you stand in the middle of the road you're going to get run down. |
BrewDog - Edge (keg) | 3.20 | | Travesty of its former fruity self, this chocolate dominated mild was served far too cold and highly carbonated for this beer style. |
Three Floyds - Ice Grille (keg) | 8.00 | | Dubbel style. If you're going to brew a Trappist beer in the States and then ship it to Scotland it should be something exceptional. This wasn't.
Poured a hazy red brown with hints of dried fruit. More malt than hops in the mouth with a little spice. Residual yeast flavours tended mask other components. |
BrewDog - 77 Lager (keg) | 4.90 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Hardcore IPA (keg) | 9.20 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Punk IPA (keg) | 6.00 | Not Tried
23 Oct 2010 (Ray)
Again really busy. Noticed that nips of Bismark and Penguin were available.
Three Floyds - Alpha King (keg) | 6.00 | | This was why we went back so soon. More on the nose than I noted yesterday (effect of drinking after Hardcore IPA?) but perfect, complex balance. |
BrewDog - Vanilla Porter (keg) | 6.20 | | Didn't quite work. Initial roast and smoked flavours were in place balanced by vanilla and lactic hints. But lacking in body - needs more substance from the malts. |
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde (keg) | 4.10 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Hardcore IPA (keg) | 9.20 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Punk IPA (keg) | 6.00 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Riptide (keg) | 8.00 | Not Tried
22 Oct 2010 (Ray)
Well this place was absolutely jammed with a predominantly young audience who seemed to know and enjoy Brew Dog beers. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff encouraged people to try before buying.
Prices were higher than the real ale pubs in town but no one minded. There didn't seem to be any complaints about the beer being keg, either
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde (keg) | 4.10 | | Served a little cooler than its cask equivalent this suits the beer style. Good malty body balanced by loads of American (Amarillo?) hops kept interest going to long dry finish. |
BrewDog - Hardcore IPA (keg) | 9.20 | | Served in 1/2 pint lined glasses this boomed with hops before it got into the mouth. Well integrated firm malt allowed the hops to shine. Bursts of vanilla, lychees and apricots leads to a huge finish. As Brew Dog describe it: "Hammering". |
Three Floyds - Alpha King (keg) | 6.00 | | Pouring a burnished gold I'd expected a hop monster but this was subtle and satisfying pale ale. Citrus aromas and a remarkable crisp and clean finish. |
BrewDog - 77 Lager (keg) | 4.90 | Not Tried
BrewDog - 5AM Saint (keg) | 5.00 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Punk IPA (keg) | 6.00 | Not Tried
