We sat outside as Chris wanted a cigarette and talked about the state of the UK pubco scene. Very busy inside. Still do a discount for Camra members if you show your membership card.

Brew Wharf - Winter Ale4.50GoodMahogany colour, thin dark beige head. Hops are a bit soapy. It's not bad. Some decent malt, deepish malts. Yes, alright, hops are reasonably dominant.

Second stop on my tour of Borough that included The Rake, The Market Porter and finishing at The Royal Oak. Hadn't been in for a bit, so was interested to see if it had improved. Much the same, but it did have one of its one beers on. Had the Stiegl Weizen Gold on keg as well.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Springhead - Rudolph's Ruin4.20AcceptableAttractive deep orange gold colour, thin head round edge of glass. Malty aroma with red fruits in mouth, summer fruits, it's alright. Fruit is a bit artificial, but ok.

Hey they can open the glass fronted doors! Nice, makes the bar more open. Seem to have stopped brewing for the time being. Camra members get a 10% discount.

Hobden's Wessex - Merrie Mink4.20PoorSherberty hop aroma which I like. Odd bleachy flavour in mouth and finish, which I didn't. Bit of ginger? Some diacetyl even. If it wasn't for the sherberty hop, I'd throw it away. It's oddly ok? No, it's pants.

Blimey this place is expensive. £3.70 a pint! More a bar than a pub I'd say but pleasant enough. We stood outside with our pints and a map trying to work out where the Rake was. In the end we asked a waiter and who laughed and said it was 20 metres round the corner.

Meantime - Extra Dry Stout4.50GoodBit fizzy. Good plain stout though.

Sat outside as it was full inside. Met up with another couple from Ratebeer. It's ok, but I probably wouldn't spend much time here. Oh yes, it is expensive too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew Wharf - Mild4.00AcceptableOrangey chestnut with big thick head from a sparkler. Quite hoppy for a mild. In fact hoppier than some bitters. Earthy English hops. Not much of a mild. Thin in body, bit of fruit. Odd, but hoppy.

It is a rather attractive drinking place. Big high read brick arches.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew Wharf - Robin5.00GoodMahogany colour with good beige head. Smells fresh. Good red/dark fruits, like ripe strawberry jam. Really rather stunning. Good ESB. Just the feeling it gives you. This ticks a lot of the right boxes for me. Some fruit syrup maybe and lightish use of hop, but combats the fruits well, and a very dry finish.

Here with a friend after an enjoyable late morning/early afternoon wondering around Borough Market. The brewer behind the bar suggested a bottle of Blanche de Bruxelles for my friend and I had a half of his summer beer, Trader
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew Wharf - Trader3.90AcceptableCopper clear colour with lasting head. Nice hops, too cold. Body is fine, then peppery hop, some tea. Quite light orange malt and then harsh hop on end. Interesting.

Stopped off on my way home from Cambridge as I wanted to see if it had the late hopped version on, but it didn't.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew Wharf - Rebel5.40GoodRich coffeeish dark strong ale. Good grainy malt. I like it. Dark ale with some whisy and vinous notes. Dry finish.

Third stop along the way. It was actually busy inside so we sat out. Even at end of November, it was just about warm enough to do this. There is a new manager who has taken over and put a smile on the serving staffs' faces and it has improved it no end. More warm and welcoming. The brewer came out and talked to us about the beer. He has only been brewing for 9 months. His next beer was going to be the Rebel, but dry hopped with Cascade hops. A good range of Meantime beers on tap too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew Wharf - Rebel5.40ExcellentDeep ruby colour with lasting beige head. Choccy caramel. Some nice hop on aroma. Fullish in mouth, nice choc flavours. It’s quite a good strong dark bitter. Very impressive and the best of their beers so far.

Just off Borough Market, this has 2 beers on brewed on the premises. Feels more like a bar/restaurant but the beer range is good if expensive. Good outlet for Meantime beers from Greenwich.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew Wharf - Bitter3.60AcceptableHazy pale copper colour. Toffee hop earthy aroma, bit wet in the body. Could do with a bit more oomph. Pleasant enough though. I just hope that this brewery continues to improve its products.
