They've had a refit since I was last in. Not much has changed, just some new carpet really. Pete was a great laugh as always, even brought us over a taster of Dark Consiracy when it came on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
York (now brewed by and at Black Sheep) - Centurion's Ghost Ale5.40ExcellentLovely dark ale. Rich and chocolatey with nice malt. Really good stuff.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy4.90ExcellentFantastic condition. Lots of roasted malt on this one. Once again quite a lot of carbonation. Really nice interesting dark ale.
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Oxford Gold4.00AcceptableNot bad, but very boring. Sweet with a little hop and malt. Just a very basic golden ale really.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10Not Tried

Stop no. 3 on the Ramsgate crawl. Not particularly busy, so I sat by the front window looking out over the bay. Seems to be a day for winter warmer beers as this one had 3.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40GoodWhen I got in the pump clip was turned round, but I snuck a peak at it to see what it was as i could see it was a Dark Star beer. Imagine my delight when it came back on. Just a little soapy and once you have had this beer at the Butcher's Arms in peak condition, everything else tends to be a bit of a let down.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider4.30GoodA bit like a beefed up No.7 with a bit more deep malt and fruit roundedness. Bi tof spicy orange fruit. Decent bitter.
Theakston - Old Peculier5.60Not Tried

Advertises itself as CAMRA's Thanet Pub of the Year 2004. Arrived with my wife about 1 pm and there were very few customers in the bar area but by the time we left about an hour later there was certainly more activity. Staff were friendly and helpful and we had a geat value meal. The Guest Ale was Doom Bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Bishops Finger5.00AcceptableNice clear drink which seemed to lack the body that I like. Still, a drinkable ale.

Very busy with quite a good band playing. We couldn't hear eachother over the music unfortunately, but the atmosphere was definitely good.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ringwood - Old Thumper (now superseded by 5.1% version - separate entry)5.60ExcellentGorgeous. Sweet, fruity and very easy to drink.
Dark Star - Smoke5.00ExcellentStill fantastic, possibly even better than thursday.

Pretty quiet in tonight, which is odd for a thursday. You can always rely on Pete to have an interesting beer on, this time was no exception.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Smoke5.00ExcellentThis was close to getting 5 stars. Bavarian style rauch beer, the smoke is very apparent. Really interesting, and very tasty.
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50ExcellentI'm always happy when I see this on in a pub, one of the first ales I ever got a taste for. This was in great nick, malty with that odd yet inoffensive metallic flavour. Top stuff.

Came to see a friends band, unfortunately arrived 3 hours too late! Sat top and had a couple before heading gome.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Theakston - Old Peculier5.60ExcellentI love this beer. Rich and black, loads of roasted malt and chocolate with a slight tartness.
Arundel - Stronghold4.70ExcellentRich choloatey with lots of fruit as well. Top ale.
Old Mill - Halloweeen Surprise3.90AcceptableNot bad, bit bland. what i expected from a novelty ale.
30 Oct 2008 (Blair)
Really busy with loads of people eating food. The amount of people eating actually detracted a little from the atmosphere but hey ho it's only a small niggle.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thwaites - Lancaster Bomber (please now use the Banks's entry)4.40GoodMalty and smooth. Very easy drinking beer.
Robinsons - Dizzy Blonde Amarillo Pale Ale3.80AcceptableVery sweet, a little cloying and tasted quite synthetic. Not great but alrightish.

A friend of mine is moving to Wales, so we had a going away shindig here. There was about 15 of us, so the pub went from being dead to fairly busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Exodus Stout6.20ExceptionalThis was so much better than it was at the Hop Farm. Eddie told me I had to have it, I wasn't going to say no. Very rich with lots of roasted malt and chocolate. A little smokiness in there as well. This is how a stout should be done.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider4.30GoodNice malty bitter with a nice hop background. This is a really reliable beer.
Burton Bridge - Festival Ale5.50GoodFull bodied strong ale. Quite hoppy and easy to drink.
Ossett - Silver Shadow3.90GoodI liked this. Sweet with a nice floral aroma and fruity flavour. Good session beer.

19 Oct 2008 (Blair)
I can't actually remember what the atmosphere was like for some reason. I'm sure it was good though.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Burton Bridge - Old Expensive6.50GoodI was expecting better, but this was still a good beer. Dark and very rich. I couldn't taste the strength. Good to see the winter ales starting to appear.
18 Oct 2008 (Blair)
Came along for the second night of the cider festival. I could only stomach 1 pint of cider this time around. Not as busy as the night before downstairs, the upsatirs was geaving though.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Old Pig Ramsgate Brown Ale4.80ExcellentYup, equally good as last night.
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30GoodA bit sharp, but still had the normal creamy, malty flavour to it.
Brains - SA Gold (now 4.3% see separate entry)4.70GoodQuite floral and fruity. Nice and refreshing.
