More cardboard than beer but suspect this is more about the serve than the brew.

Seemed quiet. Too many pumps taken up with cider.

Cairngorm - Highland IPA

This how it's described: "The larger than life Highland IPA, an IPA with a massive American influence. Powerful Amarillo bitterness exploding with late citrus flavours from Centennial hops and grapefruit from Perle hops." The reality is rather different. Dominated by caramel/buttertscotch which could be smelled from feet away this beer was characterised by an almost complete absence of hops. Citrus? Grapefruit? Wishful thinking.

Light golden ale but no real character.
Oakham - JHB
3.80
What have they done to this? Watery and lacking hops. Not JHB at all.
13 Jun 2013 (McGargle)
Fast friendly service - shame the beer wasn't of a similar standard.

Don't think this was a honey beer but the flavour was there.
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA

Hints of fly spray. Left 1/2.
RCH - Double Header
5.30
Devoid of any real character. Only now realised it's strength.
Hop Union (formerly Great Western (GWB)) - Meerkat Mild
3.90
Lacking in virtually everything. Body, flavour, aroma. Not a serve problem.
Cairngorm - Caillie
3.80
Plenty of caramel but where were the new world hops? Missing!

Not really a mild but a malty bitter.

Brown vinegar. Staff to be commended for quickly taking it 'off' but don't they have someone to taste beers during the day?
The pub is found in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, AB11 5BQ.
Typical Spoon's bank conversion in Castle Street, with typical Spoon's mix of customers but also a manager who knows about real ale and keeps a good variety of beers in good condition. Aberdeen CAMRA Town Pub of the Year 2009.
We have visited this pub 209 times, seen 414 different beers and tried 262 of them.
