A morning on the beach and a bracing sea swim could only mean one thing - beer.
Very convivial pub.

Late lunchtime - just sailed up the Ore.
Friendly welcome - lovely wood panelling and the feeling of a “proper boozer”.

Lunchtime and we sat in the rear garden, with excellent fish and chips from the chippie next door. We were amused by the Good Beer Guide description of this pub as ‘large’. The adjective I would use is ‘small’.
Adnams - Topaz Gold | 4.00 | | A very tasty, pale, hoppy beer. A good pairing with fish and chips we decided. |

11:40 Opens at 11:30 so we were the first customers. We came to assess the Heritage status of this pub and, whilst the room itself is interesting, the bar and bar back appear to be of no great age. The pub was originally in the house next door. This has now become the living accommodation but the pub sign is still on that building rather than on the pub itself. Aldeburgh itself was heaving as it was half-term week so the pub yard soon got busy with people eating fish'n'chips from the shop next door.

Friday lunchtime with a few regulars and tourists. Landlord was well informed about real ale.
Purity - Mad Goose | 4.20 | | Smooth, citrusy and in excellent condition. A "hole in the glass" beer. |
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | | Fairly ordinary. |
Adnams - Extra | 4.30 | | Typical Adnams taste - I didn't find anything Extra about this beer. |

It was about 9:30 when we turned up and a crowd of blokes was just leaving. The pub was a real drinking house. It was a single room with a high ceiling and wood panelled walls with plates and pictures on them.
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Mary's Ruby Mild | 4.50 | | Good condition but not my kind of beer. Lots of liquorish with a reedy low hopped body. |
