Lunchtime a couple of other customers in, we sat at the far end of the pub and enjoyed our beers bathed in sunlight streaming through the windows.

Early evening friendly welcome, busy standing room only, leftover buffet food dotted about indicates a function of some kind had recently finished. My last visit here also included the long since closed Princess Royal in nearby Abbey Street, to which a local I chatted to knew well and agreed is sadly missed..

Late evening visit to gem of a little street corner boozer hidden amid chimney pots. Just as I arrived the barman was ripping off a velcro attached pumpclip having taken a duff new cask off sale.

My first visit here for possibly as much as ten years. I’d forgotten what a cute little pub it is. Some rather domineering locals present in the early evening.

Very busy on a Thursday evening as the Thursday evening mild drinkers club was visiting.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild3.40ExcellentOn form here with lots of malt, fruit and liqorice flavours. My score 16/20
Dunham Massey - Chocolate Cherry Mild3.80ExcellentCherry flavour dominates, but still allows the chocolate malt flavours to come through to the finish. My score 16/20.
Rudgate - Ruby Mild4.40AcceptableDespite it winning champion Beer of Britain, I am not keen on this beer as it is too bitter for a mild. There was a rather harsh earthy taste in this sample. My score 14/20.
