First visit of the outing: A magnificent beamed inn dating from the 16th-century sprawling over several rooms and an attached barn for catering for large functions in. Quiet on my arrival early afternoon with no other customers in evidence and so prompt service at the bar. Wonderful carvings of medieval heads on the side of the bar counter that would look equally at home in an ancient church. It turned out that there were a few in the rear garden lapping up the late summer sunshine. A joy to find such a well-kept seasonal ale as the pub is largely given over to diners rather than real ale drinkers in observing its layout.

Served with excellent head and lasting lacing on this chestnut bitter brewed by an independent craft brewery established in 1995 just outside the hilltop village of Brill in rural Buckinghamshire. A fruited resinous first bite with a hint of subtle autumn chestnut spices. A malty, nutty and buttery bitterness rising aided by its Pale Planet, Crystal and Roasted Barley, and where Chocolate malt is sometimes incorporated for added depth, lending toasty malt, sweet marmalade and burnt-caramel flavourings. A hoppy fruitiness emerging with flavours of hedgerow berries for me from its Northdown and Brewers Gold, and where some brews also utilise Fuggles and Willamette. A lingering bitterness sliding downwards. Served in very good nick with plentiful conditioning throughout.

20:00 post-b/f visit. This is a very nice pub, popular with diners and drinkers alike. The garden is the place to bier at this nice time of the year.

Was expecting a Christmas ale, but this one tasted just like Masterbrew to me.
Whitewashed corner pub opposite the church in the centre of the village in New Road. 3 rooms with a restaurant area, slightly raised side area and the main room which contains open plan seating and the bar at the end.
We have visited this pub 18 times, seen 30 different beers and tried 17 of them.
