Evening visit with what seemed to be a themed oriental dinner going on. Have eaten here quite a few times and have never been disappointed and the portions are very generous. There are five hand pumps and beer is usually well kept.

Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExceptionalI was told that this is one of the house regular beers
Sharp's - Doom Bar4.00AcceptableWas served this by mistake, but tried it anyway. I generally find this beer uninteresting.

Beer Festival on but driving so only tried two. Busy at the bar I realised too late that I'd been short changed by £5 !
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest4.40GoodAs this was sponsor on Planet Thanet glass although not actually on sale thought I'd give it a go...again nothing special !
1648 - Brew Master3.90GoodAt previous festivals I've found some of the gravity beers in poor state so stayed on those on handpump. This was nothing exciting though !
26 Jul 2008 (Ian)
My last stop on my crawl that took in Wrotham, Borough Green, West and East Malling. I sat outside opposite the church and watched the world go by.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Westerham - British Bulldog "BB" (was 4.3%)4.10ExcellentDecent UK best bitter, nice butteryness to the fullish malts, decent earthy hops n nose and finish. VEry suppable. NO less than I would expect from an increasingly promising Kent micro. Even with 2 flies in it, this was good. Really well put together beer.
Whitstable - Oyster Stout4.50GoodGood fullness, richness in the mouth, hinting at the richness of oysters. Sharpness on finish. bit too much burnt malt maybe, but actually a very good half. Maybe even a bit too rich for me. Tasty and well put together. Some blackberry fruit
Wadworth - 6X4.10Not Tried
Marston's - Pedigree4.50Not Tried

The first stop in the Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay CAMRA branch's Mystery Bus Tour. Lovely pub and friendly too. Good to see Westerham beers on as I don't often see them.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Westerham - Grasshopper Kentish Bitter3.80GoodA good quality pint. Dark coloured and with a lemon grass bite to it.

Fairly quiet on a mid Saturday afternoon. Wedding was just ending in the church opposite. Beer was served well and it seemed friendly enough with a couple of family groups in.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Westerham - Summer Perle3.80ExcellentWas extremely surprised by this and to start with not sure what score to give it. Golden beer with wonderful peach and hop flavour. Slightly cardboardy and slightly thin in the mouth otherwise it would have been a 5/5. More peach/apricot flavour on the end. Starts well and finishes well but just lacks something in the midddle
Black Sheep - Best Bitter3.80AcceptableCopper colour, no head, nice hop notes some apple/raisin malt fruit.
Hook Norton - Old Hooky4.60Not Tried
