Second visit of the day following the walk back from Bough Beech's The Wheatsheaf which I left at around 4pm. I got back to The Greyhound just an hour and a half later. I had not brought a tent and so did not want to get back too late and so a slightly speedier walk it was! Feet tired on that sun-baked soil and so more than ready for a good few halves! Busy on the outside and in but no queue at the bar and met with prompt and friendly service as earlier in the day. I think the earlier birthday party was over and sadly they did not leave me a piece of their cake but I had a sealed "Pain au Chocolat" from Lidl's with me that solved meeting the odd hunger pangs. Water and biscuits for my faithful hound and my two halves would then lead to our final watering hole before Tonbridge.
Three Legs - Pale #3 | 3.70 | | Very good head and lacing and holding well on this East Sussex IPA from Bexhill-on-Sea. A first hit of being mildly fruity. A moreishly hoppy oiliness then presented itself and a dry hoppiness lingered on. |
Elgood's - Revival IPA | 4.50 | | This IPA from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, and south-west of King's Lynn, certainly set about reviving me! A bitter and citrus-fruit infused first hit in this West Coast-style IPA. Made with Maris Otter and Crystal malts, a woody hoppiness leapt up from its pine, citrus and spicy flavourings. A resinous hint lingered well into the bitter aftertaste. Very refreshing it was and so suitably revived after all the walking and climbing over stiles. Just The Little Brown Jug to do next before train to Tonbridge's The Nelson Arms. |

Early afternoon and first visit of the day. From Penshurst Station, exit on the side facing The Little Brown Jug pub and turn right on the main road and walk along just a little way and take the marked footpath opposite the church over a field and then turn right into Camp Hill and then take the first left into the little hamlet of Charcott and veering right just before The Greyhound pub on your left. Several defined drinking areas and the bar facing you as you come in, and with a dining area at the rear. Larkins' cask ale is always on, and from the brewery just 2 miles away, as well as generally 3 changing cask ales. A warm welcome and attentive service and just beginning to fill up and witnessed a birthday cake being brought in to complement the pub's own food most lunchtimes and evenings.
Kent - Old Skool | 4.10 | | This Kent bitter from Birling, north of West Malling, came with a frothy head and lacing which lasted well. A hoppy first hit. A moreishly dry bitterness then came to the fore complete with a dark fruitiness and a touch of caramel. There was a superb dry and oily hoppiness and toasted maltiness then lingering. |

Pub 6 on the Larkin's tour. I love this pub. Proper middle of nowhere rural country pub. Fields and dusty roads. Old school.
