My first meet up with a group of friends down the pub since this whole virus nightmare began. It was a bit of a palaver booking a table and having to all arrive together and so on, but absolutely worth it. We stayed long into the night chewing the fat. Several other cask beers were available , but I'm out of practice with remembering their names.

Lunchtime from opening. A rather disappointing beer selection at this time. I learn to my surprise that a CAMRA discount is available here on the non-Volden beers and "has been for years".

Early evening. There is some excellent live music, played to a surprisingly indifferent audience who are mostly focussed on their roast dinners.

I have tended to avoid this pub during daylight hours due to its reputation for having a primary school playground at breaktime atmosphere. And indeed there are plenty of youngsters in this-afternoon, but they are mostly on best behaviour.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Winter Star4.40GoodBranded as an Old Ale but has little resemblance to the classic Old Ales I am familiar with from Harveys and Adnams. Very decent though – chocolatey and dark brown in colour.
Boss - Beatle Juice4.80AcceptableA cloudy and very sharp, golden beer. I don’t think it is on prime form.

Late afternoon and really nice atmoshere. I had originally planned to have one of Antic's excellent sausage rolls but I could not resist the Percy Ingle shop on the way here so was no longer hungry. Left a few copies of Marsh Mash on the bar and sat down and enjoyed listening to the sound of Bob Dylan.

The pub is found in Leytonstone, Greater London, E11 3AA.

A large, historic (founded by 1670) town centre pub in High Road. Famous in the 60s and 70s as a live music venue, it has hosted such famous names as Led Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis and Roxy Music, plus local heroes Atomic Rooster. But knocked around and abused in recent years under a succession of themes. Taken over by Antic and re-opened in June 2011 as a 'traditional pub'. Instantly immensely popular. There is a large main bar with big tables for sharing, more of a dining lay-out to the part-screened rear area, and there is a big yard at the back. Pavement tables too. During 2019 the ballroom has been brought back into use and hotel accommodation is now available. Transferred from Antic to Urban Pubs & Bars in late summer 2024.

We have visited this pub 37 times, seen 230 different beers and tried 85 of them.
