I seem to have an uncanny knack of going in here on a Monday evening and expecting it to be quiet but discovering it is quiz night and busy. I appeared to be the only person in the room who knew that ‘Machine Head’ and ‘Burn’ were albums by “70s Rock Band” Deep Purple.
| Brew York - X-Panda: Centennial, Ekuanot & Simcoe | 4.50 | | An amber-coloured ‘Session IPA’. Very heavily hopped. Leafy. |
| Volden - Session (or Session Ale) | 3.80 | | A hazy amber colour. Heavily malty, to an extent that I did not enjoy it much – not sure if this was just the contrast with the beer that went before. |
| Redemption - Trinity | 3.00 | Not Tried | |
| Hackney - American Pale Ale | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Sharp's - Atlantic Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |

Very busy here for Quiz Night, with most tables taken at 6:30 (except for the annoying ones marked ‘reserved from 7pm’) and packed by 7:30.

| East London (ELB) - Nightwatchman | 4.50 | | A dark Bitter with plenty of chocolate malt. |
| Franklins - English Garden | 3.80 | | An amber-coloured Bitter with reasonable hop content. |

Early to mid-evening. Busy as ever, with the garden really popular at this time of year.
| Cheddar - Crown and Glory | 4.50 | | Amber-coloured. Both bitter and fruity hop tastes. Nice. |

Our CAMRA Crawl numbers are boosted to around 15 in here and we take over one corner. Always a nice pub to visit. I head for the bus stop when the rest of the gang move on to the Walnut Tree and the North Star.
| Naked Beer Co. - Indecent Exposure | 4.50 | | Great, creamy, Porter with dry finish. |
| Magic Rock - Ringmaster | 3.90 | | Good, refreshing, hoppy beer. Appeared lacking in body after the beer that had gone before. |

I thought that 8pm on a Monday evening might be a quiet time here. Not a bit of it; well-attended Pub Quiz in full swing.

| Charnwood - Try Hopped | 4.40 | | A very good, full-bodied, hoppy Pale Ale. |

| S43 (formerly Sonnet 43) - Bourbon Milk Stout | 4.30 | | Bourbon, cocoa and oats. Full-bodied and sweet. |

Very busy indeed on a Friday evening. As usual, the efficient staff are completely on top of their game in here and service is quick.
| Windswept - Blonde | 4.00 | | A great, hoppy, Pale Ale. |
| Slater's - Smoked Porter | 4.80 | | Heavily smoked. |
| Franklins - Smoked Chilli Porter | 5.00 | | A smooth, smoky Porter with an unexpected burn in the finish (I had not spotted the word ‘chilli’ on the pumpclip). |

10 Jul 2014 (Stephen Harris)
First session of a weekend-long beer festival. Twenty casks set up on a stillage in the yard, plus the usual line of handpumps inside. CAMRA discount available. There were a few more beers on than I have managed to record.
| TicketyBrew - Stout | 5.20 | | Rich and satisfying black stout. |
| Signature Brew - Candela Gold | 5.00 | | A cloudy amber colour. This I liked; strong and full-bodied and boosted by passion fruit juice. Others did not like it at all. |
| Arbor Ales - Monkey's Uncle | 5.00 | | A hoppy, amber-coloured beer. Very good. |
| West Berkshire - Bruce's Original Dogbolter | 6.00 | | Strong, dark Crystal malt beer, redolent of 1980s Friday nights in Lewisham. |
| TicketyBrew - Rose Wheat Beer | 4.50 | | A cloudy yellow/orange colour. Wheaty, with prominent rose flavours. Served too warm to be outstanding. |
| Quaffing Gravy - Jeune | 4.30 | | Sweetish, blonde beer. |
| Rooster's - Golden Eagle | 4.50 | | In flat condition from the stillage, which cancelled out any spritziness from the use of champagne yeast. |

I was surprised how busy this pub was when I came in a little before 8pm on a Monday evening. The answer soon became clear; it was Pub Quiz night and 15 teams were raring to go.
| Gyle 59 - Starstruck | 6.60 | | First class, strong, near-black Porter. |
| Hand Drawn Monkey - Monkeys Love Hops 16 | 4.20 | | Golden in colour with an extreme hop-heavy taste. Some might call it one-dimensional. But the hop in question here is Galaxy, one of my favourites – so it’s ‘Excellent’ from me. |
| Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Wolf of the Woods | 4.70 | | Amber-coloured Premium Bitter, with all-British ingredients. Full bodied and rich after the hop-monster drunk immediately before. |
| Sharp's - Coaster (or Cornish Coaster) | 3.60 | Not Tried | |

| Ilkley - Wit Marie | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
