Quite difficult to find and that was with 2 blokes who came from round here. Interesting pub in that kind of am-I-a-pub-trying-to-be-a-bar kind of way. We sat at a table and tried to solve James' women issues.

Upstairs and downstairs both very busy, but we managed a couple of drinks before heading towards Manchester Piccadilly (London Road) Station.
Mad Hatter - Boozy Scotch Ale | 10.50 | | Delicious but at 10.5% it was no surprise that I did not get up very early the following morning. |

24 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy late on a Thursday evening.
Outstanding - PSBH Anniversary 2 | 5.50 | | Stout with pink peppercorn and sour cherry. Actually worked rather well to give a full bodied and roasty stout with just that extra edge. My score 16/20. |

20:30 visit. My first introduction to this well established bar that opened in 2011. Very impressive too with a large ale and foreign beer range to please most enthusiast's. Very busy on all levels but we found a table in the small garden area. A top bar with it's well deserved first entry in the 2013 gbg. I bade farewell to my compatriots here on what has been an excellant all round week of indulgence and discovery in my favourite City.
Summer Wine (SWB) - Diablo | 6.00 | | Another top ale, an IPA style, and a second winner here tonite. |
Tiny Rebel - Cwtch | 4.60 | | Another winner, our fourth here tonite and time to say farewell to the chaps. |
Dark Star - Kiwi | 4.00 | | A top ale from a top Southern brewer. And another winner. |
First Chop Brewing Arm - AVA | 3.50 | | Another new brewery, this one based in Ramsbottom apparently. A tasty third winner too! |
29 Jul 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Convenient Sunday afternoon stop-off between Olympic football at Old Trafford and our train back to London town.
Mallinsons - The Beach is Back! | 5.00 | | No surprise to find this is a pale, intensely hoppy, and rather excellent pint. |
Worth - Incline | 4.30 | | A slightly strange (in a way I could not put my finger on), pale, cloudy, malty beer with a subtle hop presence. |
Rogue - Imperial Youngers Special Bitter | 7.50 | | Served on low pressure keg dispense. I’m always a bit apprehensive about trying a foreign brewer’s interpretation of a British Bitter. This was a reddish chestnut colour, cloudy, buttery and creamy. Satisfyingly warming. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Kipling | 5.20 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Victorian Ruby Mild | 6.00 | Not Tried
Hardknott - Infra red | 6.20 | Not Tried
Magic Rock - Dark Arts | 6.00 | Not Tried
Liverpool Craft - American Red Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried
08 May 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with the after work crowds on a Tuesday evening.
Little Valley - Midgeley Mild | 3.80 | | Black mild with a good well rounded flavour of chocolate and toffee malt. Little hopping with a fruity finish. My score 16/20. |

My first visit to this new-ish pub. It is very reminiscent of some new-wave London pubs such as Craft, Cask or the Rake. The similarity extended to the shelf of The Kernel Brewery bottles and the advert for a forthcoming ‘Meet the Brewer’ with James & Lizzie Brodie. Was I really in Manchester? London prices too.
Dark Star - Revelation | 5.70 | | A very pale beer that is massively and fiercely hopped with Cascade, Chinook and Columbus.. A full week’s IBUs in one hit. Fabulous. |
Marble - Manchester Bitter | 4.20 | | Pale, with a floral smell and a bitter aftertaste. |
Marble - Ginger Stout | 6.50 | | Black and smooth. A lovely blend of flavours with neither the burnt tastes nor the ginger ott, but great spicy heat in the finish. |
Dark Star - Winter Meltdown | 5.00 | Not Tried
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - Golden | 4.20 | Not Tried
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - Bronze | 4.50 | Not Tried
