Quite difficult to find and that was with 2 blokes who came from round here. Interesting pub in that kind of am-I-a-pub-trying-to-be-a-bar kind of way. We sat at a table and tried to solve James' women issues.

Upstairs and downstairs both very busy, but we managed a couple of drinks before heading towards Manchester Piccadilly (London Road) Station.

Mad Hatter - Boozy Scotch Ale10.50ExcellentDelicious but at 10.5% it was no surprise that I did not get up very early the following morning.

Busy late on a Thursday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Outstanding - PSBH Anniversary 25.50ExcellentStout with pink peppercorn and sour cherry. Actually worked rather well to give a full bodied and roasty stout with just that extra edge. My score 16/20.

20:30 visit. My first introduction to this well established bar that opened in 2011. Very impressive too with a large ale and foreign beer range to please most enthusiast's. Very busy on all levels but we found a table in the small garden area. A top bar with it's well deserved first entry in the 2013 gbg. I bade farewell to my compatriots here on what has been an excellant all round week of indulgence and discovery in my favourite City.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Summer Wine (SWB) - Diablo6.00ExceptionalAnother top ale, an IPA style, and a second winner here tonite.
Tiny Rebel - Cwtch4.60ExcellentAnother winner, our fourth here tonite and time to say farewell to the chaps.
Dark Star - Kiwi4.00ExcellentA top ale from a top Southern brewer. And another winner.
First Chop Brewing Arm - AVA3.50GoodAnother new brewery, this one based in Ramsbottom apparently. A tasty third winner too!

Convenient Sunday afternoon stop-off between Olympic football at Old Trafford and our train back to London town.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mallinsons - The Beach is Back!5.00ExcellentNo surprise to find this is a pale, intensely hoppy, and rather excellent pint.
Worth - Incline4.30GoodA slightly strange (in a way I could not put my finger on), pale, cloudy, malty beer with a subtle hop presence.
Rogue - Imperial Youngers Special Bitter7.50GoodServed on low pressure keg dispense. I’m always a bit apprehensive about trying a foreign brewer’s interpretation of a British Bitter. This was a reddish chestnut colour, cloudy, buttery and creamy. Satisfyingly warming.

Busy with the after work crowds on a Tuesday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Little Valley - Midgeley Mild3.80ExcellentBlack mild with a good well rounded flavour of chocolate and toffee malt. Little hopping with a fruity finish. My score 16/20.

My first visit to this new-ish pub. It is very reminiscent of some new-wave London pubs such as Craft, Cask or the Rake. The similarity extended to the shelf of The Kernel Brewery bottles and the advert for a forthcoming ‘Meet the Brewer’ with James & Lizzie Brodie. Was I really in Manchester? London prices too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Revelation5.70ExceptionalA very pale beer that is massively and fiercely hopped with Cascade, Chinook and Columbus.. A full week’s IBUs in one hit. Fabulous.
Marble - Manchester Bitter4.20ExcellentPale, with a floral smell and a bitter aftertaste.
Marble - Ginger Stout6.50ExcellentBlack and smooth. A lovely blend of flavours with neither the burnt tastes nor the ginger ott, but great spicy heat in the finish.
