Visits Details
24 Oct 2023 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until close. First visit since they straightened out the former bar counter dog-leg.
DEYA - I'm a Rolling Stone | 4.60 | | Top notch condition brown ale |
Bristol Beer Factory - Milk Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Verdant - Penpol | 3.80 | Not Tried
Buxton - Hazy Harlequin | 4.90 | Not Tried
25 Aug 2019 (Philip Pirrip)
Early morning after midnight visit until 1am close.
Fyne - Jarl | 3.80 | | Should not have been on sale. Fobbed so it needed 3 glasses to fill a pint and was totally hazy. Either not settled and too fresh or a defective cask. |
Bristol Beer Factory - Milk Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Adnams - So Many Different Worlds | 3.70 | Not Tried
21 Jun 2018 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit until midnight close.
Siren Craft - Broken Dream Breakfast Stout | 6.50 | | Superb head, condition and flavours. Fobbed a lot when pulled as only a couple left in the cask |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Five Points - Pale | 4.40 | Not Tried
04 Jun 2018 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until 11pm close. Sad to see the imposing dinosaur foot with talons keg pump handle retired on to the bar back.
Wild Beer Co. - River of Darkness (collaboration with Left Handed Giant) | 3.90 | | Smoked beer with maple and chillied. The chilli came through heavily |
Marble - Pint (was 3.9%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Pale | 3.80 | Not Tried
23 May 2018 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit after fancying a cheap pint in this excellent venue. Closed and all I could see were carpentry trestles. Hermits Cave pub opposite said just a short term closure to spruce up the toilets.
16 Aug 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit and the place was doing good trade still.
Bristol Beer Factory - Milk Stout | 4.50 | | All real ales still £3 a pint anytime, any day |
Five Points - Five Points Pale | 4.40 | Not Tried
Five Points - XPA | 4.00 | Not Tried
25 May 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until midnight close. All real ales are at £3 - barmaid said to balance the high price of many keg beers. I looked with awe at some of the key font motifs and handles. The Kwak font is a work of art and one keg handle was a massive bird's leg with taloned claw.
Five Points - Railway Porter | 4.80 | | Spot on, had a second |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Salopian - Darwin's Origin | 4.30 | Not Tried
East London (ELB) - Cowcatcher | 4.80 | Not Tried
21 Jan 2015 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close. One barmaid working trojanically to serve and do the end of day jobs. I was amused by the name of one craft fizz beer "Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale" - stoopid to pay those prices I say.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | The only real ale on. Far too cold so marked down from Good to Acceptable. |
01 May 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Very quiet in the early evening. Pleasingly scatty barmaid.
Brooklyn - Sorachi Ace | 7.60 | | Single hop beer. Available on keg dispense. This beer is yellow in colour with a perfumed hop aroma. Hoppy taste, slightly sweet – hint of sherbet. A bit too heavily carbonated. |
RCH - Bristol Brewers United: Smoked Porter Collaboration 2012 | 6.00 | | A collaboration brew by Arbor, Bath, BBF, GWB, RCH and Zero Degrees (phew!). Complex, black, smokey, bit of liquorice, sweetish malt base, fruity hops. Bit of everything really – I guess when there are six brewers involved, everybody has to throw in a handful of something. |
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried
