Two visits:morning and early evening.Much keg was being consumed on my second appearance, when I was intrigued by the prospect of an elderly Ticker blocking the narrow bar whilst peering at the keg taps and rating three glasses of 'Grapefruit ale'.
Magic Rock - Dark Arts6.00ExcellentBlack:hedgerow fruit,coffee.Cracking.A fitting end to the day's festivities.

Mid-evening visit.
Hardywood Park - Christmas Morning9.20ExcellentFrom keg dispense. This is a version of the ginger and vanilla Imperial Stout that I drank yesterday; in this case the beer has been steeped over roasted coffee beans. Itís excellent, but I found it a bit too coffee-dominated and preferred the straight version.
Redemption - Legacy Oak4.70AcceptableI didnít really get on with this fruity Bitter. Probably because it came after a series of stronger, well-hopped and carbonated beers. Iím sure Iíd like it on another day.
Oakham - Scarlet Macaw4.40Not Tried

Burnt Mill - Steel-Cut Gluten Free Oat Pale Ale 4.20ExcellentThe only survivor from the previous nightís Tap Takeover by Burnt Mill. From key-keg. Great, fresh flavours.
Brew York - Triple H4.30AcceptableA murky amber brown colour. Well-hopped. I usually love this kind of thing, but this one didnít work for me today.

Low-level Monday evening crowding means I have the rare privilege tonight of taking up a stool in the inside part of this little pub.

About The Rake

The pub sign. The Rake, Southwark, Central London

Summary of Beer Scores

The pub is found in Southwark, Central London, SE1 9AG.

Small pub on the north side of Borough Market run by the same people who own the Utobeer bottled beer stall in the market itself. The bar has 3 hand pulls serving UK cask beers and 6 taps supplying continental and world beers. An extensive bottle beer selection is also available from the fridges behind the bar. The bar has stripped wood floors, pale beige walls and a historic Pilkington glass ceiling. A decked patio provides extra space and seating. Definitely an excellent addition to the Southwark beer scene.

We have visited this pub 147 times, seen 336 different beers and tried 241 of them.
