Busy for this early evening visit and last watering hole in Maldon for us. Hanging baskets outside obscure the name of it and so easy to walk past and miss it. Locating number 10 in the high street aided us to find it. Warm and prompt service and 6 Mighty Oaks on.

Crowded when I arrive, but within ten minutes I am the only customer. I apologise to barman Steve for having had such a negative impact, but he explains I had just missed the end of the afternoon’s live music and people were keen to move on to the beer festival near-by. Luckily there is soon another wave of new arrivals.

| Mighty Oak - Hoodwink | 4.30 | | Mighty Oak rarely turn their hand to dark beers, but when they do they are invariably excellent. This has a chocolate malt flavour and much fruit. It is selling very well apparently. |
