Evening visit until midnight close. A beer oasis with quality the watchword. Superb cask but the keg prices are really "premium".
BeerABVScoreNotes
DEYA - Astral Planes4.80ExcellentDelicious porter
Vocation - Naughty and Nice Caramel Cookie Chocolate Stout5.50ExcellentHad all the promised flavours, good enough for two, but heady too, albeit at 6 sovs a pop

04 Mar 2020 (Stephen Harris)
A pleasant evening at a pub which is no-longer on one of my well-trodden routes.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Northdown - Merry Margate3.80ExcellentPale and bitter.
Team Toxic (cuckoo at Liverpool Brewing Company) - Empress of Cydonia5.20ExcellentInitially sweet, then sharp quince flavours take over. Bit of lactose in here I think. I like it.
71 Brewing - Rivet Red4.80GoodRed/brown. Toffee malt flavours with hops very much in the background.
Ilkley - Stout Mary4.50Not Tried
Kent - Craft Pale3.80Not Tried
Ilkley - Joshua Jane3.70Not Tried
01 Jul 2019 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until 11pm close. I get the feeling here the ales will always have good condition. Some brim measures were on the cusp of being annoying, maybe being related to tasters given.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Anspach & Hobday - Keith & Marisa's Bitter3.70GoodA mildly bittered ale
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Civil Servant Boy's Friday Pale5.70GoodPresumably all English hopped, a slow drinking strong ale
Neptune - Tetramagia4.30Not Tried
Neptune - Wooden Ships4.70Not Tried
Tiny Rebel - Issy and Aki's4.80Not TriedDescribed cliptually as a Trifle IPA, yes Trifle not Triple. Described from behind the bar as being very sweet
Siren Craft - Living The Dream6.30Not Tried
22 Oct 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Early Monday evening and relatively relaxed in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopcraft (experimental side of Pixie Spring) - Temple of Love3.80GoodSummit, Chinook and Cascade-hopped version of this beer. Pale and hoppy and very dry.
Hopcraft (experimental side of Pixie Spring) - Keep me Away From a Naked Flame4.20AcceptableHazy Golden Ale. Tasted a bit odd to me, in an indefinable way.
Kent - Craft Pale3.80Not Tried
Stancill - Stainless4.30Not Tried
Holler (formerly Holler Boys) - Cheat Mode3.80Not TriedPresumably from Holler's new brewery site in Brighton.

Late-afternoon into early evening, until becoming crowded.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Stewart - Voss IPA6.50ExcellentStrong and a bit spicy and tasting of marmalade.
Fourpure - Coastline6.00ExcellentFrom key-keg. Shockingly sour gooseberry, but also sweet vanilla. Plenty of hops too. Really good.
Hop Kettle (Cricklade & Swindon Breweries) - Liquid Highway4.50GoodAn easy-drinking golden bitter with some orangey hop flavours.
Hopcraft (experimental side of Pixie Spring) - Campania5.00AcceptableA vanilla ice cream flavoured Milk Stout. But something wrong and its a little too sharp where it should be sweet.
Kent - Craft Pale3.80Not TriedCurrently badged as 3.7%.
Blackjack - Red Rye Saison7.00Not Tried

BeerABVScoreNotes
Fourpure - Chai Milkshake4.40ExcellentFrom key-keg. Amber-coloured, hazy and very spicy.

Probably the first time I have been in here early on a Thursday evening. At 6:30 it is jammed. Two deep at the bar trying to get served and precious little room to stand with a pint. Many are spilling outside onto the pavement.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Crouch Vale - Astra4.10ExcellentA pale beer full of hoppy goodness from Citra and Mosaic.
Mourne Mountains - Glafy4.50ExcellentA bone dry, black Irish Stout.
Crouch Vale - Slovenian Cardinal3.90GoodQuite a heavy, amber beer with little relief from the hops.

Early evening. A little over a year since I first came in here I have concluded thre is some particularly uncomfortable furniture here. I must be getting soft.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hawkshead - Jingle Fells4.50ExcellentI usually say that I don’t like spiced Winter Ales – but for some reason I have been enjoying them this year – this one included.
Gun - Craft Beer Co. Vermont Pale Ale6.10ExcellentCloudy gold. Full-on, fruity US hop flavours.
Bad Seed - Citra Pale Ale4.50GoodI can’t resist any beer with the word ‘Citra’ in its name.

Sunday afternoon and I note several of the same customers sitting in the same seats as last week and the same band setting up for music later. I must not become a creature of habit.
BeerABVScoreNotes

The pub is found in Limehouse, Greater London, E14 7JD.

This pub in Commercial Road was present by 1871 as the Railway Tavern; the licensee at the time being William Gordon Crow, who previously ran the Crow’s Nest nearby. It is a Victorian era, single bar, street corner pub that nestles almost underneath the railway line beside Limehouse station. Traditionally a Charrington’s house; that brewery’s former ownership can still be seen in the green panels in the windows. For a while in the 1980s the pub was renamed Stepney East, before reverting to the Railway Tavern name. By 2010 the ownership had moved to Punch Taverns and in December 2016 it re-opened following refurbishment as the newest outlet for the growing Craft Beer Co. chain. Six handpumps and twenty-one keg taps on the bar.

We have visited this pub 26 times, seen 115 different beers and tried 66 of them.
