I had not been here since well before I was 18 when I had to sit in the garden with a bag of crisps and a soft drink whilst my Dad enjoyed a pint inside. I had vague memories of a very good traditional pub with lots of rooms and dark wood and feared the worst, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it is still a very good pub. We chatted with two girls who were touring Kent and staying at this pub. The lady behind the bar told us that Cherry Brandy is still a very good seller here.

The pub with three names*. Just passing mid-evening and stopped for a swift half - not been in here for 20 years or so. Very traditional - quiet tonight. Brief, interesting chat with the Landlord - we are just in Thanet here with the Wantsum channel across the road - in days gone by it was navigable and smugglers brought brandy to mix with the local cherries here - hence the *nickname of the Cherry Brandy House. *Also known as the Halfway House.

What a nice pub. The staff were friendly and the interior cosy. I sat outside on a bench and watched the traffic go by.
