Lunchtime cycle meet. This pub changed hands in November last year. Unfortunately it seems to be yet another rural pub struggling to keep good real ales (and charging a premium for them, £5.40 a pint).
Good number of customers in the sunny garden.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Once the barrel had been changed (after a returned pint) the fresh barrel was in top condition. |
Brains - Bread of Heaven | 4.00 | | Others seemed to think this was ok but I thought it was a little vinegary. |

Lunchtime cycle meet. 10 of us helped improve the rather slow lunchtime trade. Friendly welcome, dry pleasant garden.
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | | Despite our noble attempts we couldn’t get to the end of the barrel and find out what was on next. |

Lunchtime cycle meet. Just the one ale in, new barrel.
Tonbridge - Rustic | 4.00
25 Jan 2024 (Jack William)
Lunchtime cycle meet, 11 of us. We swiftly drank the Mad Goose dry and it was replaced by Deuchars.
Purity - Mad Goose | 4.20 | | Couldn’t fault it, especially impressive as this was the barrel end. |
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80

Lunchtime cycle meet on a cold day. We sat at the long table by the inglenook fireplace with a welcoming log fire on the go.
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

Swift visit, early evening. A few in the bar, most tables reserved for meals. Has retained its old world charm. Just the one ale on, but well kept.
Wantsum - Hurricane | 4.50

Thursday evening - about a dozen customers but well spread out in the 3 areas. Bit food oriented.
Wantsum - One Hop Premiant | 4.40 | | Nice and clear - but a very bland beer in my view and a faint whiff suggesting it was past its best. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Copper Top | 4.10 | Not Tried
20 Aug 2014 (Jack William)
Best pub of the night - good few drinkers round the bar as well as some diners - but not dominating the ambience.
Mad Cat - Golden IPA (previously Meaney's Golden India Pale Ale) | 4.20 | | Bordering on the exceptional - terrific condition, flavour and body mmmmm |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

I've never been here before and for some reason I thought the pub would be a bit run down. It wasn't. It was very nice and the landlord was very pleasant. We sat in the garden at the rear and had lunch.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | | A well severed pint |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried

Only two other people in other than us. Sat in the beer garden with the ducks. The view really is fantastic.
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | | Nothing wrong with this, just not a particularly great beer in my opinion. Malty with a little harshness. Drinkable enough though. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Marston's - Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA (was Ruby Beer, was Hobgoblin) | 4.50 | Not Tried
