Ahh,the Halt.Busy at lunchtime on a bleak February Saturday,we'd been to look at the snowdrops in the churchyard.A warm welcome from behind the bar. What a lovely pub.

Ian and I were heading to Brighton and this pub was about half way. I wanted to come here for years. What a superb place it is. Lovely interior and stunning garden. The landlord was friendly too.

Busy on a hot July Saturday lunchtime. The garden was full, but we sat in the cool of the bar, after a morning looking for missing cattle.Lovely pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Genesis4.70ExceptionalNot sure if this is a strong mild or a porter.Very dark ruby, rich dry malt and intriguing hops.Serious stuff.
Hastings - HPA4.70ExcellentBy rights a 4.5. Hazy- a vegan beer-pale and very hoppy.Nettles and a bit of earthiness.A new brewery for me:I'm impressed.

A goodly gathering of drinkers and their dogs on a Saturday midday. All tables were reserved for diners-it looked like there was a big wedding in the church opposite. I was in the area looking for nest boxes, so had to look in.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - 1910 Porter5.60ExceptionalWhat a beer! Dark, dark brown, sinuous and chewy.Chocolate, coffee and best leaf tea. First pint out of the new barrel.

A lovely spring morning:the pub was busy with diners and drinkers basking in the sun.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rudgate - Ruby Mild4.40ExceptionalA bit heavy for a traditional mild, but wonderfully malty, followed by a mouthfull of dried fruit. Reminded me of cake.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40ExcellentA beautiful beer, but perhaps not 100%.The burst of citrus that I was expecting wasn't quite there.

A fine welcome. Ended up playing board games. We travel here a lot more than the visits on here show (once a week on average). Ogi always has a Dark Star but also has Jaipur on occasions.

Disappointed with our earlier visit to the H'Way House we later went out for a late evening refreshment at The Salehurst Halt (thrash the ale sluts). Maybe not so many beers but Dark Star guaranteed. Ogi did not let us down. APA was superb and Mild for May which tasted better than at The Bull in HK and thats saying something. Cosy late evening enjoyment.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)4.70ExceptionalOne of the best APAs we've had here.
Dark Star - Mild for May3.60ExcellentClassic, smooth, a grower.

The pub is found in Salehurst, East Sussex, TN32 5PH.

Tucked away in the small village of Salehurst near Robertsbridge this pub is an excellent community pub. Bought by a local primary school teacher the pub is now run and managed by two generations of the family. 'Oggie' was a former drayman for Ridleys and then Greene King but he takes pride in offering good beers at very reasonable prices. The pub has good food, promoting local produce including meats from a neighbouring farm, local apple juices and Sandhurst wines. Menus are sometimes themed (steaks, curries, pizzas etc) so check. There is a snug with log fire and boxed games to while away the hours for the the more competitive among us. The rear garden includes a good size patio which should be a sun-trap in summer. So named after the former railway station that was located here, the pub is the heart of the local community. It is a post shoot watering hole and is often visited by persons attending funerals at the church which is just 50 yards away. The pub recently produced a 'naughty but nice' calendar for charity featuring staff and locals. Non beer drinkers can savour Leffe and Bushels Cider (from Biddenden). There is a big fluffy cat called Cous-cous who lives next door but frequents the establishment! Those with a philosophy bent will enjoy the stock of books on the book shelves! Beer festival each July. Try the anagram board! All-in-all, an excellent pub that demands support.

We have visited this pub 11 times, seen 23 different beers and tried 18 of them.
