Harvey's - Porter | 4.80 | Licourice flavours, maybe lacking in depth of flavours for me. Has that Harvey's twang of dryness which I don't like but Jo quite enjoys. | |

The pub is found in Old Heathfield, East Sussex, TN21 9AH.
A freehold pub tucked away in the old village of Heathfield (the new 'village was originally a quaker settlement and there is not one pub on the High Street). The pub dates back to the 15th century. It is owned by the Heathfield Estate but is managed. It calls itself a gastro pub so it's main business is seen as food. It has two bars downstairs one with a large inglenook with stove. It's staple beers are Harveys Sussex and 1648 (usually triple champion) and then a third which varies. We've been here in the past with Dark Star Sussex Stout and Hophead on so we often venture here with optimism only for our hopes to be dashed when only the staples are available. Good to see DS are making inroads but despite our extolations why do landlords run scared of such beers as APA, DS Porter etc etc (apart from the old "its too strong for my customers" line). An upstairs restaurant is a strange place where wonderful painted ceilings have been 'improved' by the current landlord by being plastered over but not painted! Nice south facing garden.
We have visited this pub once, seen 2 different beers and tried 1 of them.
