Tasting Summary
These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Dubbel | | 08 Apr 2009 | My God I love this beer! Optimum condition, having been on a day. Classical porter in every way from its dusky brown-black body and tan head to its spectacular deep, heavy bovril and dark choc malts, floral edge then lasting gravy finish. Another desert island cask. |

Dubbel | | 20 Nov 2008 | Self-professed "World's Finest Porter" and hard to argue. Pitch black with burnt barley and a subtle late chocolate hit. Dangerously smooth and drinkable for its strength. Dry finish leaves you gasping for more. We were forewarned that this was the last cask in the cellar and that it might run out at any moment but despite our best efforts of 19 pints between us, we were unable to see it off. |

Ian | | 23 Mar 2006 | Black beer with beige head. Lots of burnt malts. What is impressive is the mouth feel and the fruit. Velvety/grainy, full, intense flavours. Damsons, plums, prunes. Then a harsh, burnt finish, tempered by choc and more dark fruits. Stunning beer. |

Ian | | 30 Nov 2007 | Sourness is great. Acquired taste, but tarry and satisfying. |
Ian | | 27 Nov 2007 | Best so far. More choccy. |
Ian | | 31 Mar 2006 | I would never get bored drinking this. Not as good as when I had it at the Head of Steam. Dark malts, some fruit, but lacks depth and intensity of previous pint. Love the aroma though and the choc/damson flavours. |

Ian | | 27 Nov 2007 | Not in best condition, but still one of the best beers in Britain, why it's a seasonal, I've no idea. Liquorice aroma, leads to a malty, sour fruit full bodied beer with a slightly sour lasting tarry finish. Great. Nutty too. |

Ian | | 27 Nov 2007 | Choccy and sour. Better condition than what I had before. But a bit warm. Maybe sat in the pipes for a bit. But just a stunning beer. The fruit, sour, choc flavour is intense. Amazing. |
