Hogan Sampling		25 Apr 2026	Came with good head and lacing and lasting all the way on this Surrey-brewed straw-coloured ale and described as a West Coast-style Extra Pale Ale. A fruited citrusy first bite with hints of passion fruit, grapefruit and citrus. An emerging tropical hoppiness with just a touch of maltiness from its Extra Pale and Maris Otter malts. A fruity note winning over with lychee, white wine and piney resin flavours presenting. A bitter hoppiness paddling out aided by its blend of Simcoe, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin. It has been dry-hopped with the latter to accentuate its tropical and vinous flavours. Not overly fruited for my taste buds’ disapproval. Served in fine fettle. *The Big Smoke brewery was set up in 2014 in a converted stable block at the back of The Antelope pub in Surbiton, south-west London, before relocating brewing operations in 2019 to a larger, 5,000 square feet site at the Sandown Industrial Estate in Esher, Surrey.
