Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan SamplingNot Tried27 Jul 2025 Only its third day on was this Essex bitter from Maldon. I saw someone else with a pint of this as I walked in and it looked as flat as a pancake from its almost 100% presence just served into their pint glass. One had sufficed for me the night before when it was very lacklustre in flavouring due to its tired conditioning.
Philip PirripAcceptable27 Jul 2025 Poured flat with little life
Hogan SamplingPoor26 Jul 2025 Head and lacing, poor as only momentary. Lasting, not a chance! This Essex bitter from Maldon was only on its second day but like a greyhound that had lost the will to run its race, hugely struggling! I shared that struggle as only managed to quench my first with one pint of it and after my pilgrimage back from Canterbury to London by train. A caramel-infused malty first bite it just about managed to muster. Its malty bitterness rising but flopped back down again and it promptly passed away in my pint glass. It struggled and I struggled! I was ever so glad not to have another in not sharing in its lingering.
Hogan SamplingAcceptable25 Jul 2025 Fresh on to replace the Kent Old Skool bitter was this Essex bitter from Maldon. Head and lacing, poor, lasting, non-existent. A malty first bite. A caramel-infused malty bitterness rising and lingering. It became rather flat rapidly without any conditioning to give it a bit of life. A great shame!

Hogan SamplingExcellent06 Mar 2025 Fresh on this evening and in fine form was this Maldon bitter from Essex, with a very good foaming head and lacing that lasted to the bottom of the glass. A very dry bitter first hit. A malty mouthfeel with a hint of caramel followed and a moreish hoppiness lingered.

Hogan SamplingExcellent24 Aug 2024 In great condition with a spicy aftertaste and helped wash the fish and chips down that our party of 4 were allowed to bring in from the takeaway across the road. We followed the example of others in there who were tucking into their fish suppers as well.

IanGood04 Aug 2005 Earthy Goldings hops. Bitter golden brown with subtle hop aroma. I like the caramel malt and hop flavours in the mouth with good balanced ginish. Tasty session beer
