Beer | ABV | Score | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Goacher's - 1066 Old Ale | 6.70 | Lovely, 6.7%, but no real hint of that in the glass. Smooth and herby. | |
Stonehenge - Rudolph | 5.00 | Superb, smooth, warming, lots of dark fruits. | |
Hopdaemon - Leviathan | 6.00 | Went for this first as this is one of my favourites. I think it may have been starting to run out, but it was great. Red fruit, syrup and lots of citrus. | |
Hambleton - Nightmare Porter | 5.00 | Another great pint (or half in my case), full of fresh flavour. | |
Highgate - Old Ale | 5.30 | Dark, ruby brew. Seemed excellent to begin with, but took a while to drink. | |
Dent - T'Owd Tup | 6.00 | Pretty fierce brew, a bit harsh in the aftertaste but OK. | |
Whitstable - Smack Ale | 5.50 | By the time I got to this it was definitely on its way out. Full of cinnamon spice, but was like a christmas pudding the first week in January. |
Beer | ABV | Score | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Hopdaemon - Dominator | 5.10 | Beer of the festival for me. Deep brown with lasting beige head. Lovely hop on this with good malt base. Hops are excellent and fresh | |
Robinsons - Old Tom | 8.50 | Very dark ruby, with beige head. Nice attractive boiled sweet aroma. Quite hoppy. Yep, it’s quite sweet but it’s pretty good. The hop can be quite severe. Good dark rich beer, slightlly hoppier than bottle version | |
Harvey's - Christmas Ale | 8.10 | Dark reddish brown with beige head. Really quite pleasant if slightly sticky sweet, quite a meaty aroma with lots of orange. Nice dry hop finish and some boiled sweet. Better on the second half pint | |
Fernandes - Empress of India | 6.00 | Golden beige bubbly head. Citrus hoppy aroma, lemon, grapefruit. Quite pleasant in mouth. Quite a good take on an American style IPA. Sweetness balances the hops well | |
Grainstore - Winter Nip | 7.30 | Chestnut colour with white head. Slightly vinous aroma. Good winter ale. Imagine curling up with this in front of a fire. Christmas cakey. Really vinous and enjoyable | |
Tring - Death or Glory | 7.20 | Deep chestnut, bubbly beige head. Quite a strong syrupy aroma, syrupy in mouth. Very malty, some good hops too. Some niceish sweet malt | |
Mordue - IPA | 5.10 | Golden with white head. Grassy, hay, good hoppy beer. Quite nice hop with drying hop citrus finish. | |
Hanlons (formerly O'Hanlon's) - Royal Oak | 5.00 | Deep copper, thin beige head. Nice hoppy aroma. Good malt body, fruit is quite nice. Another good beer from OHanlons |
