We entered from the Buttermarket, which was a new one for me, and weaved through old buildings and yards to get to the main pub - which was heaving. We managed to get a seat. Can't say I was wowed by the place. If you were coming for a meal, and if you REALLY liked Shep's beers then maybe you'd like it here.

Sunday lunch, quite busy. Despite the stacks of logs these are decorative only - no wood burning stove and a very chilly pub. Also a bit disappointed by the beer choice - I was told
last year that there was not a full beer tie - but I've only seen Sheps on since.
| Shepherd Neame - Bishops Finger | 5.00 | | Thought this was a bit lifeless - pump clip turned as I left. |
| Shepherd Neame - Dragonfire | 4.50 | | Malty with some odd flavour that I couldn't quite discern. Not to my taste. |

Mid Sat evening until late. heaving in the main pub but we sat in the wine bar annex that opens onto the Buttermarket, this was busy but not crowded. The wine bar and pub are connected by a patio area and if you want beer you have to bring it through from the pub. I guess if you get bored with Sheps ales you can also pop next door to the City Arms. We liked it and went back for Sunday lunch next day - very good.
| Shepherd Neame - Amber Ale | 4.50 | | very pleasant - good quaffing ale |

| Shepherd Neame - The Faversham Steam Brewery - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale | 3.90 | Not Tried | |

Two drinking establishments in one now. The corner shop in the Buttermarket has now been converted to the Shakespear's wine bar and the pub is linked via the patio area.
Not very busy but a good ambience. Surprisingly not a full Sheps tie now.
This brings up #20 for me in my quest to do all Canterbury pubs by the year end.
| Inveralmond - Ossian's Ale | 4.10 | | Soft and quaffable if a little bland but nice lingering aftertaste. |
