Another "first" for me, and boy, what a thirst you need with this eclectic range of ales! Ticking head well and truly on, I dived in? Incredible. What a pub. Current 2013 gbg entry and twice previous in 2011/2
Elland - Diablo | 5.60 | | A top class Porter, rich and full flavoured. Sixth winner! |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Puja | 6.70 | | Clip says a collaboration with Dark Star called Puja Jasmine IPA. Excellant too. |
Ossett - Hop Monster | 5.00 | | And it was too. Top class. Seventh winner.. |
Outstanding - SOS | 4.50 | | A1 again. Eighth winner. |
Summer Wine (SWB) - Zenith Pale Ale | 4.00 | | A1 again. |
Millstone - Tiger Rut | 4.00 | | Alas, this was the only one that wasn't a winner! Nevertheless though, my 12th winner here for this first visit to this amazingly good real ale emporium. Ironically, this last ale was "ticked" down my way at Dartford WMC in 2009? |
Buxton - Dark Nights | 4.60 | | Very good again. No.11 winner. |
Oates - Wild Oates | 4.30 | | Third winner! |
Elland - Junga at Heart | 4.60 | | Fourth winner! |
Fernandes - Red Hop Ale | 4.40 | | Fifth winner! |
Rudgate - 20th Birthday Ale | 4.00 | | Ninth winner! |
Buxton - Moor Top | 3.60 | | A good effort. 10th winner. You can tell I've not done much "ticking" in 2012? |
Quantum - Bitter | 3.80 | | A1 again for my 12th winner. |

Always a good range and varied in flavours. Does not fall for majoring on Golden beers. Monday night is cheese night but I have always missed it on previous visits - I think they wait for door to close as I leave and I never thought to peer through the frosted glass to see them gorge. Baguette slices (white and brown), butter, biscuits, silverskin pickled onions, grapes (red and green) AND blocks of various cheeses all complimentary and complementary to the beer. I did not disgrace myself.
Abbeydale - Moonshine | 4.30 | | Always worth drinking. Rounded Sheffield brew. |
Abbeydale - Absolution | 5.30 | | Kept on the stronger ones to complement the cheesy comestibles. |
Quantum - Citra IPA | 5.50 | | A delight as the stronger ABV brought out the body of the beer. Who invented Citra hops - where had they been all our lives? |
Rudgate - Ruby Mild | 4.40 | Not Tried
Millstone - True Grit | 5.00 | Not Tried
Phoenix - Thirsty Moon | 4.60 | Not Tried
Saltaire - Cascadian Black | 4.80 | Not Tried

Fairly quiet on a Saturday lunchtime.
Blindmans - Scorpion Sting | 4.00 | | Very pale bitter with an excellent fruity, citrus hop character. Quite sweet from the fruit and balanced well with malt. The finish is fruity. My score 16/20. |

Pub has only been open a week or so and already a good number of people in on a Saturday afternoon. Good selection of beers in excellent condition.
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Roll Away the Stone | 5.00 | | Pale strong bitter with assertive hop character and good malt balance. Citrus finish. My score 15/20. |
Hidden - Bee'ch Licked | 4.60 | | Strong pale ale with good balance of malt and hop and a fairly bitter finish. |
