Mid afternoon not too busy with a few folk finishing off their late lunches. I sat in the empty middle snug bar and tentatively sipped my pint.

Shepherd Neame - Late Red4.50GoodIf beer could be brewed using fallen leaves am sure it would taste like this. Ugh...

Busy for late afternoon visit with most customers sitting outside at the front still soaking up the sunshine. Remember it well for the polar bear's giant painting in the front bar. Another two bars are further into the establishment from my tour around it. Fine stained-glass doors lead into front bar and no visible changes from earlier visit some 20 years ago. Friendly service from bar staff member.

One of the loveliest pub interiors in Kent, in my opinion. The log fire kept it toasty warm, and a grinch wandered in off the street, stroked a Christmas tree bauble and left. It was all happening.

Stop 4. May first visit to this impressive heritage pub. Plenty of diners in the saloon and snug. We sat in the front bar and admired the architecture.

Early to mid afternoon and fairly quiet, we took advantage of the superb front bar but moved shortly after to the more cosy middle snug bar thanks to folk to-ing and fro-ing and not closing the the door.

Shepherd Neame - Bishops Finger5.00ExcellentIn superb condition a joy to drink hence three pints went down very well.

Evening visit to the atmospheric front room. The Guv told me the overhead brass lamp on an arm was a replica, but a little longer, of the original. Although he is leaving shortly his niece will take over the licence, with guest appearances from him on high days and holidays (and hop festivals!).

Evening visit prompted by the Guv at Furlongs remarking that the best looked after Sheps in town was here. Enjoyed the atmospheric small front corner bar. Apparently the licensees here are to retire shortly,
