Visits Details

1st visit of this outing: Ticking over for my early afternoon visit to this ever-popular micropub housed within one of the wooden sheds within Battlesbridge antiques market. Usual prompt service and sat outside for a change and where some of the units’ traders were also situated on the wooden benches overseeing when they had custom walk into their respective units.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mauldons - Mole Trap3.80Excellent2nd beer of this visit: Came with good head and lasting lacing on this amber-coloured best bitter from Sudbury, Suffolk. A dry bitter first bite. A crisp hoppy bitterness rising. A nutty crystal maltiness emerging with very minimal caramel sweetness. Its local English barley including Maris Otter grown on their own farm lending a biscuity toffee infusion and a sprinkling of Crystal Malt giving the beer its signature nuttiness. Its hoppy bitterness winning over from a blend of traditional, UK-grown English hops providing a grassy, floral, and grapefruit-infused bitterness. A dry fruity and floral hoppiness sailing out. Top condition it was in.
Mauldons - Three Lions3.80Good1st beer of this visit: Presented with good head and lasting lacing on this limited-edition, golden blond to amber-coloured pale ale brewed by East Anglia’s oldest commercial brewery, first set up in 1795, and in the market town of Sudbury, Suffolk, and often brewed to coincide with major football tournaments like the World Cup. A fruited hoppy first bite. A hoppy fruitiness rising with a citrusy note or two for my taste buds and a subtle tropical fruity tanginess. A white wine grapey hint among its resinous flavours emerging from its mix of traditional UK-grown English hops to bring out a bitterness alongside citrusy notes. A mildly sweet malt finish derived from its traditional English malted barley, much of which is grown directly on the brewery owner's local family estate farm. A dry bitterness winning over and paddling out. In good nick.

Busy in the front outside seated area. Not so busy on the inside for early afternoon visit. Immediate welcoming service as on earlier visits. Seem to time it just right.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Friday afternoon and fairly busy. There was a tempting selection of filled rolls on the bar. Unfortunately I had left my pen at home and did not note all the beers on offer.

Early lunchtime with a few customers popping in during our visit including to stock up on the generously filled rolls thus stock quickly dwindled.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Earl Soham - Victoria Bitter3.60Excellent
Crouch Vale - Astra4.10ExcellentDelicious, by far the best here, IMO. Hoppy spicy kick thanks to the blend of Mosaic and Citra hops. Would have been a 5* if it wasn't over carbonated.
Mighty Oak - Heart Of Gold4.30ExcellentSuperb condition although lacking flavour considering its ABV
Brecon - Daffodil4.00ExcellentA taster alas yet another bland flavourless beer

We were the first customers on this wet Saturday morning, welcoming with the appeal of the quaint location tucked away in an antiques centre! Ham and cheese rolls were being stacked up on the bar during our visit, at a reasonable £1.50 each.

Soon after 11:00 opening time and the person serving seemed to be delighted that the first customers of the day were ordering beer instead of coffee. A wet and miserable day probably led to the antiques centre being quieter than usual for a Saturday.
