Lunchtime on the first Saturday we haven't had to work for ages. Pleasantly busy with walkers, locals and the cat.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Gold Top | 4.30 | | Citrussy golden ale of the moment:prime. |

01 Jan 2013 (Wittenden)
Busy with diners (and the pub cat) on a sunny New Years Day. Unfortunately we hadn't booked, so we had a pint and continued our walk along the Downs. Good pub.
Whitstable - Native Bitter | 3.70 | | Decent brown session bitter.Earthy hops:toffee. I don't seem to see many Whitstable beers, even though they are brewed just up the road from us.Good stuff. |
Whitstable - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried
01 Jan 2012 (Wittenden)
Back onto the top of the Downs for a New Year's Day lunch and walk in the rain. The pub was busy with diners and drinkers enjoying good Kentish food and drink. The cat was on fine form.
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | A lovely grassy, biscuity IPA. One of my favourite Kentish beers at the moment. |
Kent - Cobnut | 4.10 | | Dark ruby. Malt driven, with bold rasping hops.My first experience of this intriguing brewery. |
Kent - Zingiber | 4.10 | Not Tried | I had a taster of this: a good balance of hop and spice, though not really to my taste. |

My first visit. Most impressed by the welcome without being pushy or overbearing. Only two beers available today but up to four are on later in the week. They are all from Kent Breweries. Most impressive menu of local food (and very tasty too).
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 7 | 3.80
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest | 4.40 | Not Tried | A pint was pulled but was the end of the barrel and a tad cloudy. Another Wantsum beer due on later. |
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | Not Tried
26 Sep 2010 (Wittenden)
A busy Sunday lunchtime in this archetypal Kentish pub- a friendly cat, fresh hops on the ceiling and an open fire-in September.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | An excellent golden ale-intensely hopped, with a blast of citrus. My only quibble is that I'd like a bit more malt in the mix. In the running for my eer of the year. |
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | Perhaps more to my regular taste than the APA: a good honest mid brown fruity beer with a profound hoppy finish. |
16 May 2010 (Andrew)
We arrived 5 minutes after the pub opened at lunchtime and judging by the 5 members of staff behind the bar it was going to get busy. Since the weather was warmish we sat outside. I liked the pub and could easily see myself camping there one day and doing a session.
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4% & 3.5%) | 3.70 | | My kind of beer; brown, earthy hop, malty body. What a beer should be. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 7 | 3.80 | Not Tried
Whitstable - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried
