A fair sized crowd of us met up here, and had a most enjoyable afternoon. The barman was extremely knowledgeable about the beers, and even managed to play the piano for us between pulling pints.

The Hope is CAMRA’s Greater London Pub of the Year. Tonight is the presentation night and the pub is very crowded. The presentation itself is running late and Kev and I have to leave before the speeches are made and everyone gets stuck in to the free beer and buffet set out in a marquee out the back.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Green Hop IPA6.50ExceptionalPossibly the best of this year’s big haul of green-hopped beers that I have tried so far. Big and bold and hoppy.

Saturday afternoon, and a great range of interesting beers on. Beers were turning over very fast indeed, it seemed that every time I went to the bar all the pump clips had been changed for a new ale. Unfortunately I was unable to make a list of all the beers that were on offer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)4.70Excellent
29 Mar 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
A beer festival in progress, showcasing London brewers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Old Street Pale5.00ExcellentStrong pale bitter with sweetish citrus and fruity hop flavours. Sweetish, fruity finish. My score 16/20.
Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Black Eel5.00ExcellentA black IPA with a good combination of dark malt and citrus hop flavours. Full bodied with a fruity hop finish. My score 16/20.
Redemption - Port & Brandy Porter5.80ExcellentA lot of Port and Brandy went into this festival special to raise the ABV by 0.7%. Dark malts just temper the flavour of the fortifications. My score 16/20.
Boggart - Dark Mild4.00GoodMalty dark brown brown mild with a sharpish fruity finish.
Summer Wine (SWB) - Resistance Dark Mild3.70GoodA little hazy, possibly too fresh, not quite as flavoursome as usual. My score 15 with B for quality.
East London (ELB) - Pale Ale4.00GoodThis version was specially dry hopped with Citra for the beer festival with the inevitable results. My score 15/20.
