19 Mar 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Very busy in here, as always. Rumours circulating that the Chancellor will abolish the Beer Duty Escalator in tomorrow’s Budget. A victory for sensible lobbying.
Tempest - Elemental Porter | 5.10 | | Near black, chocolaty porter with a strong smoked malt flavour. |
Tempest - Cascadian | 4.10 | | A full-bodied, hoppy, blond beer. |
Mallinsons - Tammie Norrie | 3.90 | | A typically pale, crisp, Mallinson’s beer. Very nice, the flavour cutting right through the super-strength Soffles I was eating at the time. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | Not Tried
Magic Rock - Rapture | 4.60 | Not Tried
Magic Rock - High Wire | 5.50 | Not Tried

27 Feb 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Very busy indeed in here, mid-evening.
Kent - Altered States | 4.70 | | Very good, US-style, hoppy, brown ale. |
Ilkley - The Mayan | 5.30 | | A thick, dark, heavily-flavoured beer. Initial impression is of intense chocolate – by the end, this has been replaced by a burn of chilli. Somewhere in the middle is a perfect chocolate / chilli balance. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Craft Union | 5.00 | | A brown beer, brewed with rye and flavoured with honey. In this sample, the honey completely dominated the taste and the condition had fallen flat. |
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | Not Tried
Marble - Ginger Marble | 4.50 | Not Tried
Marble - Lagonda IPA | 5.00 | Not Tried
Crouch Vale - Snowdrop | 4.20 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Partridge Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Black Harry | 3.90 | Not Tried

Saltaire - Stateside IPA | 6.00 | | Very pale in colour. This is a full-bodied US-style IPA with plenty of fruity hops tastes and an underlying bitterness. |
Kent - Brewers Reserve | 5.00 | | Very pale in colour. Strong, with plenty of citrus hop flavours. |
Beer Geek - Legend of the Golden Geek | 4.50 | | Amber in colour. Very bitter. |

08 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy around 7pm on a Tuesday evening.
Dark Star - The Art of Darkness | 3.50 | | Black in colour with good citrus hoppiness, this is a black bitter not a mild despite seeing it described as such elsewhere. There is maltiness but the dominant flavour is of citrus hop. My score 16/20. |
01 Dec 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy on a Saturday afternoon but managed to get the little low table at the end of the bar.
Crouch Vale - Palisade | 3.90 | | Pale and hoppy with good citrus flavour and good malt balance. Refreshing hop finish. My score 16/20. |
RedWillow - Mirthless | 3.90 | | Pale and hoppy with the characteristic taste of Nelson Sauvin hops giving a grassy, grapefruit and gooseberry flavour. Finish is quite dry and tart. My score 15/20. |
31 Oct 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy mid evening on a Wednesday.
Fyne - Sanda Black | 5.50 | | Black in colour but hoppy with citrus notes set against dark malts. Smooth mouthfeel with a fruity finish. My score 16/20. |
Caveman (latterly a cuckoo at Leatherbritches) - Chinook (brewed at Kent Brewery) | 4.30 | | Amber bitter with fruity hop bitterness and some citrus flavour. Fairly fruity finish. My score 15/20. |
16 Oct 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy for a Tuesday evening.
Magic Rock - Craft Magic | 3.20 | | Pale gold house beer, low in strength but certainly not in flavour. Very hoppy with citrus and fruit flavours dominating. My score 16/20. |
Ilkley - Crafty Jane Cranberry Milk Stout | 4.70 | | Smooth and dark with sweetness and fruitiness dominating to start. The finish is both malty and fruity. An interesting and complex beer. My score 17/20. |
Crate - Best | 4.30 | | Red coloured bitter with a full bodied mouthfeel. Toasty malt flavour and tart, fruity raisins in the finish. My score 15/20. |
02 Oct 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy mid evening on a Tuesday.
Banks's - Apprentice Rhubarb & Riches | 4.50 | | Brewed by contestants of the Apprentice TV series, this was basically a very sweet ruby mild, lots of fruity flavours, biscuity malt and very little hoppiness. Good for me, but most may find it too sweet. My score 17/20. |
25 Sep 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Rather busy in here around 7pm on a Tuesday evening.
Wood Street - Golden Larch | 4.50 | | An excellent malty golden brew with malty sweetness leading to a fruity finish. My score 16/20. |
18 Sep 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy early on a Tuesday evening.
Fyne - Cloud Burst | 4.50 | | Copper coloured bitter with a good bitter hop character and some malt balance. Hoppy finish. My score 15/20. |
