10 Sep 2014 (Ray)
Busy early evening.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | Hoppy and cool - keg. |
04 Jun 2014 (McGargle)
A little surprised to see relatively few Belgian beers.
Fyne - Sublime Stout | 6.80 | | Both hoppy and rich - clever trick. |
Fyne - Cool as a Cucumber | 2.80 | | Refreshing beer to accompany heavy rain (keg). |
30 Jan 2014 (McGargle)
Horrible weather but the place was packed as was BrewDog at the end of the road.
Alpha State - Farmhouse IPA | 6.70 | | Big IPA fermented, I think, with a saison yeast. Tasty. |
16 Jan 2014 (McGargle)
Busy. Lot's of laptops in evidence.
Wild Beer Co. - Wildebeest (keg) | 11.00 | | Imperial stout that majored on coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Need more roastiness and a dry finish from the grains which was lacking. The beer was overly sweet and cloying and at £4.40 a 1/2 not good value. |
12 Jan 2014 (McGargle)
A few customers and loudish 'background' music. Excellent tap list with, maybe, 28 beers.
Hopcraft (experimental side of Pixie Spring) - The Iron Road | 4.60 | | Uncompromisingly hoppy and bitter cask APA. This was my first Hopcraft beer and was impressed. More please. |
18 Dec 2013 (McGargle)
Enjoyable but, again, had to ask for a top up.
six°north - Hop Classic (keg) | 6.60 | | Dry, bitter and brave. |
Kernel (The Kernel) - Export Stout | 7.80 | | Served from the keg this was a 5* beer when warmed up and de-carbonated. At dispense, a disappointing 3* (just). This was the London 1890 recipe. |
28 Nov 2013 (McGargle)
As usual a thoroughly enjoyable visit but we were consistently served undermeasure in 1/2 pt glasses. They were topped up but only grudgingly. Think there is a training issue here.
Redchurch - Great Eastern India Pale Ale | 7.40 | | Perfectly served this is a booming New orld IPA. (keg) |
Cromarty - Ghost Town (keg) | 5.80 | | This was a potentially terrific beer killed by being served far too cold. |
14 Nov 2013 (McGargle)
Very busy. Great service.
BrewDog - Dead Metaphor (keg) | 6.50 | | Tasty smooth bodied chocolate and coffee stout. Perhaps could be drier and more roasty. |
24 Oct 2013 (McGargle)
Busy. Enthusiastic and knowledgable service.
Arbor Ales - Breakfast Stout | 7.40 | | Seemed like a work in progress rather the finished beer. All the elements are there - they just need to be assembled correctly. (Keg) |
Hawkshead - Seven (keg) | 7.00 | | Very solid New World IPA perhaps a little over-carbonated. |
17 Oct 2013 (Ray)
Hardly a seat top spare. Proves that pubs can thrive if they have an interesting offering. Around 30 taps in use. Very little cask ale being served.
Emelisse - Imperial Russian Stout | 11.00 | | Very smooth and subtle but with huge depth of flavour. Roasted grain did not dominate as it does with some Imperials. This keg version was shown as 10%. |
